Aerial shots of local LZ's

Post by Richard Hays »

Bacil's recent photo's of the LZ at Hyner really struck a chord with me. I know this is not an original idea but...do we have shots of High Rock, The Pulpit and other LZ sites available for our Observers and Instructors to give to our H-2's ?? If so, I would love to get them. If not.....

General aviation does it. They have photo's of airports. Even some sailing publications have aerial views of certian harbors, inlets, etc. so that you can better visualize how to get in; out. We should have the same thing !!

So....unless I'm a mushroom and totally oblivious ( not at all unlikely ) I'd love to see some aerial shots of our local sites made available for the new pilots....maybe in the site guide? Do they exsist already? If not; lets get something going on this! Shots of the LZ's in winter and summer would be such a good tool. Shots showing the north and south approach views at High Rock F'instance.

Hey Richard,

Is this what you're talking about or something more in-depth? I have all of these printed and in my HG binder and they really do help a new pilot.

Uh, Richard,
I built up that set of photos and pages at

http://www.chgpa.org/SiteInfo/SitePhoto ... hotos.html

and Mark put them on the CHGA site way back in 2001. You never saw them? I'm hurt!

Christy and Joe G even took a special flight out just to get the HR, Pulpit, Fisher's and Bill's color photos.

I'll be happy to take recommendations for updates or improvements for any of the pics, and get new versions to Mark if anyone sees a need. Those old photos are still pretty valid, but if there are other reasons to grab newer images from Google Earth or other sources and mark them up, I can.
