Flying Out West

Post by charlieg »

Natalie and I had a business trip planned this week for San Diego, and I typically do more flying than working on these trips.
Our favorite ski and other cool stuff (mountain bike, fly fish, white water raft, etc.) mountain place is Crested Butte, Colorado. While we were there for the 4th of July week I discovered the local flying club was having a fly-in August 22-24. So we added a stop in Crested Butted to our San Diego trip. After we arrived late on Friday I had my first high mountain flight during the glass off -- launch at 11,300 feet -- worked hard to get over the peak at 12,200 feet, and then off to the LZ 3,400 feet below. A wonderful 45 minute flight! Unfortunately, the weather conspired to prevent me from having any more flights the rest of the weekend, but had a great time none-the-less.
Today I had three flights at Torrey Pines, where I plan to fly almost every day the rest of the week.
Wish you were here!
