Oregon Ridge this past Wed.

Post by Richard Hays »

Amazingly heaped with obstructions like trash cans, rope walkways and of course the dreaded snow fence. Y'know, the usual mid summer crap out there. But...launching from the top avoids all but the fence which....we laid down.

Kayla did outstanding, even with the extremely hot and humid ( emphasis HUMID ) conditions. Strong launches, good inflight. all standup landings. She just passed her H-2 written and will soon have the H-2 FL flying sign off too.

Did I say it was humid? My god.......it literally was thick. Started at 9am and finished at noon. Winds were basically dead to light SE. Occaisionally cycling in and up the hill. Otherwise calm. * nice having access to a training hill in ones back yard.

Gameplan is to send her down to Ridgely for some August tow training , along with keeping her FL skills current . Then get her into the mountains asap. Her goal is to fly off of Hyner where she had her first tandem with Shawn McDuff years ago.

Looking for a used Falcon 2 140, small Eagle or Pulse for her ( cheap ). College kids don't have alot of money. Have a lead on one Pulse but would rather see her on something more current. Also looking for small POD harness. Please email at: mshgflyer@hotmail.com if anybody knows of some good used equipment deals. Not looking for a cocoon.

Woohoo, another H2 in the pipeline. Hey Rich, please tell Kayla that the community is anxious to meet and fly the mountains with her. Her progress has been extremely impressive. So there is Kayla, Raj, Dan, David and Kathy (did I forget anyone?), not too bad, not too bad. That's not a dry spell in my book.

Woohoo! Congrats to Kayla. I hope to get out to Ridgley also in the next few weeks and get AT trained. And, Janni, don't forget Tony D in the H2 fold! :)

Also, Richard, maybe check out this page. There are links to a bunch of different clubs' classified pages for used gear.

I've never even SEEN a falcon 140. Good luck with the search.

If she does a few tandems at Ridgely then one more with Shawn to learn the exact approach I might risk my falcon 170 for her first flight at Hyner. Jack's would be a safer bet, but I watched her grow up at Hyner and I think she's got the pattern ingrained.

Good call Dan! I see a falcon 140 sitting at Manquin flight park for $1250. You can see it posted under east and some swap shop.
