advice please: what to do when you hit warm air?

Post by pink_albatross »

So, I was flying Woodstock on Sunday and while searching for lift I suddenly encountered significantly warmer air. Since my vario didn't say peep, I continued looking, but was puzzled. Now I'm wondering if I should have stayed in the warmer air. I bet (but can't say with certainty) that my sink rate was better than 200fpm, although not zero. Would it have behooved me to hang out in the warmer air? Would it most likely have gotten stronger there?

Just curious

I fly (HG and PG) with a thermal snooper.

bi-wingual instrument pack: Snooper is in the center.

My snooper tells me when the air is getting warmer. When I get into warmer air, I go into in search mode.

Perhaps it was just those burritos you had for lunch.
