Flying 5/4

Post by eggzkitz »

For those less intrepid than Lazzlo and company who did not make it out today... tomorrow is looking OK, and less windy.

Forecast for Woodstock -- Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. West wind between 7 and 11 mph.

Forecast for Pulpit -- Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am. Partly cloudy, with a high near 63. Northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

I'll be heading to woodstock around noon. Winds are supposed to clock from WNW to NNW between about 2 and 6 pm.

Woodstock appears too light right now. Who knows??? Bringing out plumbing and bag. Still looking at Pulpit-- might just end up with the plumbing at High Rock.

Showing woodstock at 11 most of the day, pulpit at 14. Winds aloft reasonable and getting better later in the day.

I'll make my decision after I talk to Juan later. Looks like a LOT of plumbing heading to the Pulpit.

When in doubt, I go with the bay forecast-- 15-20 all day, smal craft advisory. So.... Woodstock.

Yes, Juan is heading there with students. I'll be there between 1 and 2.

What a pleasant and great day at Woodstock!! I don't know that I've seen so many hang gliders in one place in a while... hope everyone had nice flights. A gaggle of us (Juan, Lazzlo, Ellis, etc.) made it up to 7 grand a couple times in nicely organized but not too strong thermals. The set back was becoming more northerly as the day progressed, as forecast, but I still think we could have cleared skyline had we not been so drawn to our cars.

Kudos to Ellis, who it would seem may have set a new endurance record for Woodstock. I wasn't sure if she was ever coming down!

Thanks to Steve for the ride up.

Bucked a headwind and flew up to Strasburg and past Signal Kob. Thought the return trip with a tailwind would be easy. Never assume-- fell into a giant hole a few miles back and landed out near Tom's Brook. Caught a ride out to 11 with a farmer, flagged down Chris McKee (Batman) for a ride back to Woodstock and Mill Road and then ran into Marc Fink for a ride up to launch. Fun Day! 2 hours and 4K over. Though, I wish it would have picked up more at the end of the day so I could've flown the plumbing too...

But, hey, home by 8pm. When does that ever happen?
