Wills Wing Demo at Wallaby

Post by Richard Hays »

Bit late on posting this but...I just have to say how much fun the Wills Wing dealer demo days was. For all my rants about mountain flying.....I do have to say that Wallaby really knows how to do the do. No wonder every other tow park in the world aspires to be like them. Or should. I've been down there before but with the infusion of Wills Wing being there, well...it was unbelievably cool. Never seen so many gliders and people and all that. Wills Wing really did it up with gliders to test fly, food and presentations. Wow.

Highlights for me were:

1. Seeing all the industry legends
2. Seeing all the new designs
3. The flying!
4. Seeing Fred Permenter and John Middletown race each other to the head of the chow line Saturday night when the dinner bell rang. Classic. Unrehearsed and men with a mission.
5. Seeing my wife Leigh run the wrong way when the bell rang. Never saw a redder face when she realized her error. LMAO.
6. Getting the VIP tour from Fred on the Wallaby golf cart.
7. The Red Bull Girls
8. The nature tour of the local alligator.
9. Ignoring the advice of the locals and flying only in a tee shirt. At 4700' I froze my ass off! But hey...it was 85 degrees on the ground!
10. Did I say the Red Bull girls yet?? :D
11. The margarita fountain.
12. The orange blossoms. My god, I think I could smell them at 3,000 feet!

There's so much more but I'll just leave it at that. Great time; great manufacturer; great establishment and great people all. Hope to return again soon. And miss ya' Fred and Rae.
