mountaineer / daedalus flying

Post by gardinator »

The mountaineers and daedalus boys had a get together at the pinnacles SE launch near cumberland on saturday.

It was way overcast and not promising, however pete lehman launched and soared for a while waiting for the rest of the lemmings to go.

Larry Ball, Jim Rowan, and yours truley , launch in turn, and when Larry Huffman launched, something spectacular happened.

A meteroilogical anomolly allowed for an enormous parcel of air to ascend to 9000-10000 ft msl...

We all took advantage of it and there were numerous cores going up with some instantaneous climbs of 800-900 fpm! (averaging 400fpm)
gardner was as unprepared as usual and cried about having no gloves or jacket and headed downwind to get lower and warm, and landed at the meyersdale fairgrounds on his maiden flight with marc finks old talon.( thanks marc) @20 miles

The other boys went @ 40 miles to just NW of somerset pa.

Larry Huffman was kind enough to wait for our Buddy Pat Brooks to launch and come with, but was rewarded with the main LZ, after having been at 9000 with the rest of us.

As per usual, the Daedalus boys came through and delivered petes and gardners vehicles to somerset on their way home.

Thanks AGAIN Guys.

To illustrate Mark's comments about the fantastic gains at Pinnacle on Saturday, here are a couple of screenshots of the tracks and barograms of Larry Ball, Jim Rowan and myself. I am the low one; Larry and JR flew the entire flight as though bound at the hip.

I was wondering when Markie-boy would get around to flying my old bird--glad to hear she agrees with him. She likes to go for long miles--though I often frustrated her by coming up short.

The nature of how linking to WebShots images works seems to prevent them
from being embedded directly within forum posts. So you only see text, like
"Image" , or "PeteImage" . There may be a workaround, will work with Pete
on that.

In the meantime, try right-clicking on the text ("Image", etc), and if you're
lucky, the image will be displayed. Come back to the forum, and the image
will magically display properly. Weird.

I routinely post webshots images inline here.

Once you are viewing the image from your webshots page, just cut and paste the html from the "link to this picture" area on the right, in the form field labeled "post in a forum"

example of what it looks like in the webshots 'Post in a Forum' area.

Code: Select all

What it looks like when pasted into a chgpa forum message:

Sorry, should have said something like:
Linking to WebShots works only if you use the WebShots "link to this image"
feature on their website. If you obtain a URL for the image in some other
way, it doesn't seem to work when you try to embed it within a post.

Thankyou Mark and Sparky. The image problem has been solved.

Incidentally, I have submitted to the XC Forum an account of three excellent flights from High Point on April 15, also with a tracklog of the flights.

Mark,

Thanks for 'xplaining ... I didn't know that. Webshots is sometimes a PITA, but I'm kinda stuck there (with over 3000 photos)
