Kite Festival and National Marathon

Post by Matthew »

Ugh! The national marathon is on Saturday morning. See link to map for when streets re-open.

The section of Constitution Ave where we like to park near the Washington Monument re-opens at 8:15 am. Thus, anyone coming early to help set-up needs to arrive near the corner of 18th and Constitution at about 8:15 or a little later. You also need to come in from the West Side of town-- from Virgina or from Rock Creek Parkway.

The cherry blossom festival starts tomorrow as well. Unlike most years this one promises to capture the blossoms coming into peak bloom. The tidal basin was a sea of pink as I drove past it today. If you have never seen it up close this is your chance. People come from all over the world to see it and they don't go home disappointed if it looks like it's going to on Saturday. All the more reason to come out for the kite festival.

Parking nearby is gonna be a problem if we have to wait until after 8:15 to unload. We may want to bring all gliders and other equipment in on one vehicle, and have everyone do a quick unload while double-parked. Then the driver pulls away and parks elsewhere.

One possibility: I could volunteer my vehicle. If Chris brings the Batwing to my house, and Cragin brings the training harness he's talking about, I could throw my Falcon on top, and we have most of the big stuff.

Any other ideas?

We're only talking about three vehicles along three blocks of Constitution Ave. When we did this two years ago, there was parking available along Constitution after the roads opened until 10am. So I don't think it will be a problem. If there is a problem, we'll go with the drop and unload. Charge your cell phones.
