I see in the December issue of Hang Gliding/Paragliding that we have a new P-2 in our area -- Andrew Marril in Great Falls where I live. He received his rating at Torrey Pines. I don't recall meeting Andrew, and I don't see his name in the Washington area phone book. Anyone have any insights?

Seeking Information on New Local Pilot

New P2s
We asked Lisa Tate to send the clubs in each region an email whenever a pilot from that region got a hang 2 or P2 so that the relevant clubs could contact the new pilot. So far, nothing has been done. You used to be able to log into the USHGA Members Only area, type in the pilot's name and pull up their contact info. I'd call new hang 2s and P2s and tell them about the club and local flying. But that functionon the USHGA site disappeared a couple of years ago. So now the new pilots are on their own to find clubs and other local pilots.
If you wish to do something, write to USHPA and complain.

Re: New P2s
Matthew/Charlie,
Thanks for trying to reach out to new pilots!
I've noticed that roughly half of the local pilots who get ratings, get them from instructors out of our area. A few years ago I wrote to the Region 9 directors requesting that contact information be made available in the on-line directory (with an opt-out provision for privacy purposes, of course) in order to offer local flying/mentorship information to pilots who train out of the area.
I received positive initial feedback, but also no follow up. Charlie has provided a good reminder to push this cause again. I'm going to write the directors requesting that contact information be included in the on-line directory. Please do the same. You can contact the directors via the members-only section of the USHPA website.
Best,
Daniel
