HR Saturday...
Weather has weakened from earlier forecasts. Now looking like NW in the 10-knot range going N by mid afternoon with a touch of NE at the end of the day. Increasing cloudiness as the day progresses to 80% cover by dusk ahead of a precipitation event. No TFR yet. I think I’ll give High Rock a try… any takers?

HR Update...
The latest forcast calls for brisker winds than what was predicted yesterday. HR looks to be a bit sporty now. Might just fly the sailplane.

Karen and I are in for tomorrow. On the off chance that Eddie gets good news tonight of tomorrow morning, we'd love to go to Smithsburg.

Ok, what's it gonna be, WS or HR???
3k 'cast indicates fairly strong above, but moderating
sometime between 1pm and 4pm.
Clouds are supposed to start building in at the same
time, at both sites.
Gamble on Woodstock, where it might be too light?
Or gamble on High Rock, where it might be too strong?

Lessee: Mike Lee, David Churchill, Janni (on his beautiful new LiteSpeed), Mark Cavanaugh, Carlos, me, Greg the Greek, and Danny Brotto. It was blowing in pretty straight and a bit light, but seemed to pick up toward the end of the string of launches. Oh, all right, they are better pilots, OK? Cavanaugh had the flight of the day and only came out to land because he was cold. Greg and Danny had longish flights also. Janni, Carlos, and I had short but satisfying flights (mine was 20 minutes) - had to work a lot in short swaths above and in front of launch. Janni went back up for a late afternoon flight, maybe others joined him. Gorgeous day!
Emma is asking for a poster sized aerial shot of her place (probably a wingmount shot with a HG pilot in the foreground, a bunch of gliders in the LZ). Anyone got such a shot at sufficient resolution (like FILM) that we could get blown up to poster size? Apparently she had such a poster, but it fell off the wall and got damaged.

I was doing well but so tense and worked up on the prospect of landing this thing that I burned out in just 10-15 minutes. Decided to release the VG, couldn't believe how the glider turned from efficient to WW Eagle 180 at 20 inches of rope. I actually checked on my drogue chute 'cause I thought it had accidentally deployed. Lost my altitude and headed to the LZ. Still expecting a killer glider I came in way short and low, wheel landing but no broken down tube, phew! Encouraged I decided to land one more time. Mark and David the Amazing helped me setup (thanks). 10 minutes later I flew the approach like I normally would, relaxed and had indeed a very nice landing.
