Pulpit/Woodstock Sunday 7 Oct

Post by mcelrah »

Ellis, Matthew, Florent and I had sleds/short extendos in the increasingly cross light wind. Karen practiced forwards at Kirchner's. I exchanged several calls with Laszlo at Woodstock, where they got skunked. Beautiful day, albeit hot... - Hugh

Monday was the day to be at the Pulpit. Paul, Tamas and I arrived at 1:30 pm. Tamas launched in light winds first under cloud cover and had a sled. By the time Paul launched, the clouds moved out and he had a 20 minutes flight with a lot of altitude gain in strong thermals. He pulled big ears over the valley and decided to land. By the time I set up, the wind was occasionally 20 mph, so I decided to wait. The wind remained strong and gusty (but straight) till about 4 pm (although looked still OK for HGs). Tamas and I launched at about 4:30 pm, and flew till 7 pm. A bit rowdy first, and smooth later. Best altitude gain was about 1500 over launch. We spent most of the time 500-700 over launch, going up and down along the ridge. Beautiful sunset.
