Micky's Labor Day weekend
Micky's is a private hill (i.e. invitation only) near Canaan Valley West Virginia. From time to time we have paragliding parties there. There has never been a hang glider there -- although they would be welcome -- the landing zone would be quite gripping for them.
Micky's is about a 4 hour drive for Ben and I from Alexandria, Va, but we are slow; get hung up in traffic untill Manassa, and, stop for groceries in Morefield. To get to Micky's go out I 66 - Turn South on I81 for two exits. Take the second Strasburg exit on Hwy 55 at the big cross. Go West on 55 to Seneca Rocks - Then West on Hwy 33 to Harman. At Harman continue on Hwy 33 for 7 miles.
There will be a blue farm gate with streamers. Go though the gate. Be sure to close the gate and all gates even if you find them open.
Go up the road. Micky and Kari's house is on the left. The camping cabin is down a road to the right. The flying hill is up the road through two more gates.
There is pitch up camping on site. There are lots of alternatives as this is a big recreation area. Check out Canaan Valley State Park Resort; Dolly Sod;s; Monongahela National Forrest, Seneca Rocks etc
Micky's does most any kind of West. If it is East we go near-by to Spruce Knob or Pharis. If it is NE we go paddling...
The party is self catering. People should plan to bring enough stuff to care for themselves and some food to share. There is usually music - bluegrass - around the camp fire.
Please call to let someone know you are planing on coming. Micky and Kari are at 304 636 4569; Ben and I are at 304 866 3312 or cell 304 704 5881. (cell phones don't work except on the tops of some hills)
Best regards; and hope for fabulous weather to send the summer out in style.
