This is the club's annual safety meeting. Flight director Tom McGowan has organized a reprise of Pete Schumann's outstanding training on how to get your flying buddy out of a tree without causing injury. Elis Kim has volunteered her house which has a large tree in the backyard for live demonstrations of techniques. We'll also talk about techniques for staying out of the trees... Directions to follow. Watch this space.

I've seen Pete's presentation once before and he really does a great
job. Pete used to be into climbing in a big way (think multi-day climbs up
Half Dome). And this time we'll be able to simulate various things thanks
to the trees in Ellis' back yard. You WILL definitely learn something!
Cheers,
MarkC

For those of us who still have to go through a security checkpoint, present passports, and submit to body-cavity searches when entering northern Virginia - can anyone give advice on alternate routes other than joining the lemming death march on route 66? (No need to divulge Ellis address, just steerage to the general area of Falls Church.) thanks - Hugh

avoiding 66 east to go to Ellis's place
if you come across the 14th street bridge, head for washington boulevard going east, take it through almost all of arlington and turn right on Sycamore. At this point you're less than a mile from my place.
If you come across key bridge, take lee highway (route 29) almost all the way through Arlington until you hit Sycamore. Turn right on Sycamore. (3/4 mile to my house)
If you come across the memorial bridge, take 50 to washington parkway north, take spout run parkway to lee highway, take lee highway to sycamore.
does this help?
and you can call me at 703.536.3209 (home)
