We have some great people in this sport. The 4th day of the FL Ridge comp my harness zipper blew out as I was preparing to launch. Belinda Boulter offered to sew me back in (I declined). James Tindle burnt holes in my harness with a hot nail and zip tied the zipper top together. Belinda gave me a knife so I could cut myself out when I landed. Ha, it started to rain about then, so I gave it it up for the day.
The day before, Rhett straightened a batten I'd bent. And when I rushed over to the airport yesterday at 7 AM to break my glider down when a thunderstorm arrived, other pilots braved the pouring rain and lightning to help me. All these people took my problems and made them their own.
But the most amazing of kindness of all was from Linda Salamone, my team mate and friend. Yesterday morning Paul was puking from the flu, making these horrible retching sounds in the bathroom for hours. My glider was broken down because of the storm that morning. By the time I'd bought medicine and some soup and crackers (the food proved unecessary) for Paul, I was really late, having missed the pilot's meeting and not being set up. Linda called to tell me she had not only set up my glider, but carried it to a good spot in the launch line!!!! She told me to just come on over and hook in. I started to get sick myself so I didn't end up flying -- and Linda carried my glider back to the tie down area and covered it. Pretty amazing, huh?
