US Nationals Final update

Post by Paul Tjaden »

This is the third year for Lauren and I to compete at Florida Ridge. The first two years were marred by poor flying weather mostly in the form of strong winds. The organizer, anxious for everyone to fly, kept pushing us to launch on these windy days saying the flat surrounding terrain made the air almost marine like (not true). Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and we all stayed safe and on the ground. This year was quite different with pretty decent flying weather all week. The wind did kick up a bit on a couple of days but not too strong. The task was stopped Tuesday due to some showers on course. This left six days of flying out of seven so we had to think of some other way of screwing it up.

We both got Stomach flu!!!!! Woke up at 6:00 AM feeling a bit nauseous and by 7:00 I was praying to the porcelain god. Lauren took a bit longer to join in the fun but soon we were both lying around the hotel room wondering who was going to take care of us.

Oh well, we still have the Flytec to try to redeem ourselves. It starts Sunday but right now it looks like weather will wash out the first day. I'll keep you up dated.
