Although strong easterly winds have kept us grounded for a big part of the fall season, today they dropped to a reasonable level allowing about ten of us to give it a go at Quest. I launched a bit late at about 1:15 with Lisa Kain flying the tug and doing her usual pefect job of inserting me into solid lift. It was interesting because as we approached 2500 ft. we were also approaching a sailplane, another HG AND a group of black vultures, all within 400 yards of each other. Lisa wisely took me to the experts and I quickly out climbed the sailplane and HG and made CB at about 4K AGL.
XC within 3 or 4 days of the winter solsitice would have been pretty chancy so I was content with hanging out for an hour or so and enjoying the great views. Sure is nice to fly in a T-shirt, speed sleeves and light gloves one week before X-mas.
Hope you guys all have a great holiday season.
