OT....The Shuttle Launch

Post by Paul Tjaden »

Lauren and I were lucky enough to see a rare sight last night. The night time launch of Discovery was spectacular even from over 70 miles away. After being allerted by the TV channel that launch was about to happen, Lauren and I ran outside to see the entire eastern horizon lighting up as though we were under nuclear (or is that nucular?) attack. The glow continued to get more intense until the actual flame became visible and we watched in awe as this incredible torch climbed into the sky and slowly dissapeared into the eastern sky. I wish I could verbally do justice to the visual experience. If you guys ever get a chance to see a launch, you won't be dissapointed.

I know the feeling Paul.
It wasn't too long ago I was helping to recover
the orbital lander ( Atlantis ) and then, once
while flying back from South America (USAF)
the crew and passengers were treated to an
areial spectacular of an Atlas rocket launch
from above the clouds.......What a site watching
it pierce the blanket of moisture, shake us up a
bit then diappear into the evening sky.....

'til then, Mike
