Ratings

Mark,

I love the fledgling, outta-the-nest ratings. Am curious to see what comes next.

I was wondering though, if it wouldn't be helpful to see people's USHGA ratings in addition (or instead). It might be good for especially new members to see if advice for some flying technique came from a H2 or a H4. Of course I realize that H4 can at times sprout BS and that H2 can have some very valid points. But personally if there is some dispute over the best approach to take into the Fisher LZ (for example) I am more inclined to take the opinions of the H4 seriously than those of the H2.

Of course, to muddle the issue, one coud point out that a H2 who has flown Fisher Road 20 times should be taken more seriously than a H4 who's never flown it, but the H2 can always point this out in her post and a reasonable person will assign a higher value to the post. Can't help an unreasonable person anyway.

Having been around the club for a while I know most of the members' ratings and that is something I keep in the back of my mind when reading their posts (when they are flying related). A new member doesn't have that advantage when the new member is probably the one that would benefit from it the most.

Not sure if you can assign the USHGA ratings to show up with each post, but I thought I'd throw out the suggestion.

Thus far, I don't know of any way to associate extra info
with a particular user.

(The 'ratings' are just for a laugh, and are based solely
on number of forum posts. I may get rid of them entirely.)

On thing that people might consider is to add their rating
to the 'Location' field of their profile. So you might see
things like:

'JoeG : Washington DC : Hang 4'

I dunno..... If you hang out in the forums for a while, and
correlate posts with what you see up in the air, you
might get an idea of relative experience levels?
