Wisconsin and Virginia?

Post by brianvh »

Well Marco, your prediction that republicans would win big fell flat. Now here's one last slim chance to show you understand America: both Virginia and Montana have hair-thin democratic leads. Will these both swing red by the time the last vote is count?

If you win, name your drink and if you can make it to Richard's party I'll deliver it to you. I'll mail it if need be. If the dems win both states I'll have my prize already. I'll pour you a beer regardless.

Oops, meant Montana and Virginia. I'm talking the senate races, of course.

Tis truly a happy day for all America!

I will be down soon to DC--and we shall throw a victory party of some sort!

The DEms will eventaully take Montana--but by a very slim margin. The Republican will mount a recount challenge financed by the Republican party--since he would have to likely pay for it himself since the margin of win will still exceed the minimum needed for an automatic recount. It will be a waste of time and money--Montana doesn't have a significant percentage of the population that the repubs can claim are of the wrong color and/or accent in an attempt to disenfranchise their votes a la Florida.

Virginia will automatically go to recount even though Webb will still win, but not by more than 1% of the vote. Most likely, after a recount Webb will probably improve his margin somewhat due to the coattail effect.

The Republicans will pull out all the stops and stop at nothing to prevent a total turning of Congress--and will likely resort to all kinds of exotic legal challenges and force the country, one last time, into the depths of mudslinging and dirty tricks. Expect another attempt to steer the VA decision to an even more conservative Supreme Court.

The day of judgement has arrived for the bad guys.

My gosh Brian, you are so giddy, that you cannot distinguish between Montana and Wisconsin !!!

As for your wager, barring the discovery of any error or major election fraud by the Dems in VA or MT, I suspect that the Dems will narrowly win both states and regain a majority in the Senate. So mix up your finest mint juleps...I certainly could use a drink right about now LOL.

As bad as it was for the GOP, it could have been worse, so we'll lick our wounds, and move on. The sun will still come up tomorrow. No worries. Bush still has the veto, so any ultraliberal Dem legislation will not see the legal light of day.

It will be fun to watch the newly elected Dem moderates and conservatives, to see if they are who they say they are, or Libs in disguise. Of course, I will pleasantly surprised if they really are moderates and conservatives. We'll see.

I was gonna buy you a drink if the republicans win, but will follow your prescription and bring mint juleps as requested, IF I can find fresh mint. Rich's house is warm enough inside we can pretend it's spring, and he loves juleps. Looking forward to seeing you there!
