Hyner Report

Post by hepcat1989 »

On the way up the wind started picking up. It about blew my glider off my rack on RT. 80! No shit. Malina and I got to Hyner around 2 to set up camp and get an evening flight in. It was howling up at launch around 4 so we went to the Flaming Foliage Festival to get some grub and gift shop.
We arrived back at the LZ around 6 to see 7 gliders in the air. DAMMIT!
It was going to be a cold night and it was. We went down to The Gorries fire with Shawn Macduff and others to enjoy some conversation and warm cider with Captain Morgan. Fun!
It was foggy when we awoke so we went to the "Sportsmans" for hot coffee and breakfast. I then went up to launch with Bob Buchanan.
There was crossing wind, but light from the N. all morning. I went after Karen Gorrie and chose an absolute no wind launch from the gravel slot. I had to run my ass off and skimmed the terrain for a bit. A sledder. The landing was a bit stiff. I came in with much speed and flared early to pop myself up to about 5 feet. I held the flare and came down on my feet.
I'm glad I went, and happy with my wife for hangin tough. It was 30 degrees up there and we tent camped!
I am happy I made every fly-in they had this year. It was a goal.
I love Hyner. Good people.
Peace, Shawn.

Did Bunkhouse still take all his baths in the river?

Sorry I missed it, but spent half of the weekend working. Until next summer then...
