Not sure what you are asking. From my experience, costal sites tend to generate smooth ortographic lift and not thermals. Sailplanes are flown at costal sites but not for the sake of thermals. I understand that there is activity at Torrey Pines; toward the north.

The question was about sailplane flying in Spain. Apparently winch towing is a lost art in the U.S. (true?) The guy (apparently very experienced sailplane and tow pilot/instructor) is planning a family vacation in Spain and wants to incorporate learning how to winch tow. I've seen the gliderport at Torrey Pines - are you saying they do winch towing there?

I was always under the impression they did some kind of bungee launch at Torrey.
