Nice picture, Tom! Awesome flying at Dickey Ridge today. I clocked 4 hours flying time, with one volunteery pit stop after about 2 hours for some food, drinks, bladder relief and changing batteries in my camera. Took some pictures too, but can't post them right now, will do so later. My best height was around 2100ft over launch, that's also around 4500ft asl. Best lift was around 4m/s (800fpm) or so.
When we arrived there by noon, winds were noticeably cross from the north. It was blowing in nicely, though. Easy to get up, no worries about sinking out. For the first hour or so, there was sometimes a little turbulence, also strong sink at times. Later, the winds were straight in, with some slight south cross at the end. The conditions mellowed out more and more later, and a wonderful magic air cushion ended the day. I also made it all the way over to Gooney Manor overlook, to the visitor center and over the LZ and back. I landed after 5pm. Really, it couldn't have been better.

My post above was meant to be funny. Sorry, I didn't want to offend anybody. I just like the comic figures much better than the warlords, that's what I wanted to say. For the record, and there's no secret to make about that, PG pilots were Tom, Juan, Stephane, Jim, Carl, Fred, Loecky and Marcel. It's especially nice that Tom didn't forget about my tiger. We're all permit holders, except for Loecky, but if a ranger shows up, he'd be hiding pretty quickly in my harness.
Just analyzed my GPS and vario tracklogs with the SeeYou software. I launched for the first flight at 12.25. Over the entire period of my flight, the program shows that the wind was straight W below launch, averaging 11km/h=7mph. Above launch, average direction was WSW with a speed of 12.5km/h=8mph. The best thermals came through just after 2pm, maximum integrated lift was again 4.8m/s (960fpm), as mentioned yesterday to 2100ft over, i.e. 4500ft asl.
My second flight started at 3.15. Conditions were much lighter then and for the rest of that flight. Best height was only 400ft over launch, strongest integrated lift was 2.5m/s=500fpm. The software says that the wind was out of the SSW (206 degrees), with a wind speed of 8km/h=5mph, both below and above launch. Also, total flying time was 4hrs 15mins.
The wind aloft at 3000ft was forecasted to be much stronger, even exceeding the trimspeed of a PG. We couldn't feel anything of that. It doesn't always seem to hold what they promise.
Well, it's raining now -> time to play and fly on the computer.
