Call for Award Nominations

Post by Matthew »

Hey All,

January is the annual awards ceremony. Thus, we are looking for nominations for the Distinquished Service Award.

Also, we're looking for info on flying firsts--

First High Flight
First Soaring Flight
First XC Flight

We need info for both HG and PG flights.

Please contact me directly at mcgraham20@yahoo.com for nominations and info on flying firsts.

Thanks,

Matthew
PS The Quarry House is a great pub. Can't wait for the meeting next week.

I've also been sitting on top of the BVH restricted landing field award for a couple years. It seems like people have focussed all their attention on screwing up launches recently. Need to redirect some of that energy towards injudicious choices of LZ. Hasn't anyone qualified this year?

Not sure about criteria for the BVH RLS award. Does contriving to
exceed the boundaries of the huge High Rock LZ - twice - count? - Hugh
P.S. I also "landed" (in a turn, no flair, no coming up out of the
seated position; did a somersault) a paraglider in the side yard of
the house uphill from the Pulpit secondary (PG primary).
P.P.S. Are we supposed to campaign shamelessly for these awards - or
wait demurely to be nominated?

In past years, we often nominated people for a safe pilot award.

The qualification for the restricted landing field award is pulling off a landing in a field that makes folks blanch when examining it from the ground. So it can't be a designated LZ unless you pull a Padgett and .... what did he do? came in under power lines or something? Traditionally Joe Gregor approves and presents it.

Oh, the criterion for PG is that it has to make pg folks blanch....Someone who saw your side field and flies PG would have to weigh in on that, Hugh. Most PG fields make HG folks blanch as it is.

Awards

Post by Matthew »

Yes, we do a safe pilot award. Actually this is an award I came up with a long, long time ago. Another award is Most Improved Pilot. We also have an airhog award. The Jimmy Hoffa Lead Sneaker award has been missing for years. So we don't have that one anymore.

We have a candidate for Safe Pilot. But Most Improved is still up for grabs if anyone wants to make a nomination. Send suggestions to me at mcgraham20@yahoo.com.

For most improved, I was thinking of John Middleton. :) He seems to finally be improving in his flight skills. But you still have to yell at him real LOUD to FLARE!
