1. For the Aussiephobes out there...

How 'bout at the end of setup the helmet gets buckled into the glider
suspension and stays there till the carabiner snaps shut. Forget something - helmet
off and in, unclip,...

2. 'Bout a decade and a half ago I got out the ladder, harness, 25 foot
length of 3 mm Edelrid perlon, and oak tree and experimented. Using a single
strand secured with a knot and five or six wraps around the carabiner shank, 260
pounds of gear and me (a wee bit over half of the 2.3 kN rated breaking
strength), rappelled just fine. Also held up to a 360 pound static load but you
didn't want to shock load it.

If you double it over a limb - thus adding a strand and eliminating the knot
- you shouldn't have any trouble getting your Shetland Pony out of harm's way.

125 feet of the string plus the stuff bag sets you back 260 grams.

Hint...

Cut the bottom out of a can which formerly held eleven ounces of Maxwell
House, use masking tape to cover the seams, shove it into a # 1 Granite Gear stuff
bag, feed in the perlon and tamp it down as it goes, then pull out the can
before you lose the end. Replace the drawstring with something short so you can
restrict the throat without leaving snaggy excess.

3. Check the backup connection between your harness suspension and parachute
bridle to see if it makes things any safer. I'm guessing it does the
opposite.
