The concept still doesn't translate exactly, unless the pilot
explicitly asks a member of the wire crew to double-check him; which
is fine, but it's a one way interaction (the pilot doesn't necessarily
do the same thing for the wire crew when it's *his* turn to fly, which
is one of the basic principles of the "buddy system), and it's still
pilot-initiated.

Not a bad idea, but it's not really the "buddy system", per se.
