I saw Dylan a couple of times, once during his "born again" era. I remember him telling the audience "You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."

Ooh, where? Is this Bombay Blues? Always planned to get down there for a tuesday night blues. Only slight problem is it conflicts with this genius of a Delta Blues player in Madam's Organ tuesday night. But I'd like to try it some night. Ellis, you awake?

bangkok blues . things have been in flux lately due to some owner/management changes. after 1 1/2 yrs, 'blue lou' hosted his last open mike this past tuesday. bill holter (a 'gittar god') will be hosting for now and it appears that the regular cast of characters will continue to show up. last i heard it was to be every other tuesday...or was it now mondays? it's really astounding - the musical talent floating around out there. the free open mike night always need support - i'll buy you a beer.

I heard on the radio that tonight through Sunday is the first annual
Duke Ellington Jazz Festival with music, mostly free I think, all over
the city (DC).

Also, there's a great trio that plays every Thursday night at 49 West in
Annapolis. It's some of the best jazz I've ever heard for a $6.00
cover. Check them out and tell them I sent you. http://www.roblevit.com
http://www.49westcoffeehouse.com

I was entertaining some clients and took them there. One of them plays
guitar and after hearing Rob he decided that he was not worthy of the
guitar anymore. He also said, "I guess jazz is the music you turn to
when all the other kinds of music don't do it for you anymore". I
agree. Jazz is to music like Hang Gliding is to aviation like heroin is
to recreational drug use.

Gary - once you know about the schedule for sure, post it. I think we should move this thread to "ground based fun"

this is the the calendar. looks like the mondays of the 3rd & 17th in october. i'm almost always there on open mike nites - starts 7:30. there are generally one or two 1/2 priced "happy hour" food items til 7:00.
i'll let you kick the thread as you see fit. gary

be forewarned. open mike means open mike. whereas it is mostly blues based rock as well as blues, one night a drummer from 'root boy slim' showed up with two buddies and played disco (seriously) for half the night! another night a guy showed and had such a good time playing blues on his trombone(!) that i bought him a beer because i had such a good time watching him have such a good time, never mind how well he played. live music is a kick.
