There are a variety of personal privacy and computer security reasons to avoid Facebook. I have no problem with those who wish to using FB from communications, but I never will, and I advise my family not to.

For these reasons, please never demand that anyone in our community use FB to learn of events or to RSVP on it to be able to participate in them.

This advisory based on my personal interpretations of ongoing reports in my professional life. I will be happy to provide more information directly with anyone who is interested, but see no reason to start a FB debate thread in the forum.

I'm pre-paid for 2 chutes, but not, I think, for lunch. I anticipate myself, Sallie, and her mother for lunch. Will adjust earliest if Mom/Sallie can't make it.

On Facebook, and having worked at a non-technical level in the cyber-intelligence business, I put myself in the sheep-like company of those who don't really believe privacy/security exists anymore and have stopped worrying about it... Kinda like terrorism and nuclear Armageddon - they'll probably get us all, too, but hell, I might have a chute deployment first...

Uh, I just got a call from Betty. Neither she nor I have heard from Peter recently. Hopefully he is at a yoga retreat and will emerge tanned, rested, karmically-balanced, and ready. Anywho, given that participation seems more like 15-20 than 50 (what are the receipts, Carlos?), I am thinking a more conveniently late start time like say 0930 would give us time to get all the way to West-by-God Virginia (actually Charles Town isn't that far west - it's near Harper's Ferry) and still have time to do all we have set out to do. We will still need some volunteers to go out early or the evening before to set up. Need to identify a Chief Turbulator (this is more like a safety officer to restrain the enthusiasm of fellow pilots enthusiastically "turbulating" their peers), and a Master Rigger to marshal the people in line for repack, make sure they have all the piece parts, get their chutes stretched correctly on the tables. (In my handicapped state, I still might be able to fulfill one or the other of these roles.) Also, need a volunteer to pick up Betty in Bethesda and drive her out there (not sure about her chief designer, Paul Gargano). More as I/Peter find out about it... - Hugh

Betty will be staying at:

Del & Dennis' house.

7600 Bells Mill Road
Bethesda, MD 20817

The house is not in a gps friendly location so it is best to look at a map.
She is between the 495 and 270 if that helps. I [Betty] can be reached by cell at
714-264-0609.

[Any volunteers to pick her up? Otherwise Carlos and I may gather her along with my wheelchair/walker, four harnesses (plus Carlos'), etc. She will be a fun ride for someone...]

I would like to come to the clinic for part time if possible. I need to leave by noon probably. Is this feasible?

Thanks for your coordinating this Hugh, I got dibs on Betty unless she objects :)

It is worth noting that there is still a list of things that we need. I would pick up items from your DC area house on Friday evening so that you don't have to worry about getting there early to help setup. (but helpers would be good too.)

If you have not figured it out by now here is a rough list of what we need to set up:

Lecture area (a dark quiet corner)
o Electrical outlets - David (bringing power strip)
o Table
o Projector
o Chairs
o Drinks and snacks

Practice throw area
o Masking tape to indicate clear throw space
o Ropes or cables used to suspend pilots from ceiling
o A way to get the ropes or cables hung on the ceiling
o A pulley arrangement or rope routing to hoist pilots into a big swing (see u-tube Skycoaster ride) at the will of the turbulator
o Releases with long strings so the turbulator can release the victim pilot at will
o Ladders or scissor lifts to hook pilots to simulator rope
o Soft pad for harness egress
o Paragliding simulators that can be hung from the single rope off the ceiling.
o One light grocery bag for each parachute

Some hang straps with swivels built in for the throw stations (avoid rope or cable twist)

Packing area
o 1 inspection table with good lighting
o Masking tape to mark identification name on equipment
o At least 3 packing tables (8 or 10’ tables end to end) extending 30’ long.
o Table covers (plastic sheeting) to cover tables if they have any rough or dirty areas
o Packing weights (tube socks with heavy beans or grains loose in a sealed plastic zip lock bag work great)

Misc stuff you need
o Registration table
o Marker pens - David
o Name tags
o Paper
o Drinks
o Ropes to partition off the packing area

Quote this and put your name on the items you'll help with!

I have a "Lookout"-type tow release with loop actuator that is probably suitable for attaching an extension so the Turbulator can use it. Anyone else? Also a small table for registration (unless Peter avers that there are so many tables he doesn't need it). I'm assuming Carlos' truck can take everything... - Hugh

I've cut and pasted the whole list and added the items I can bring. Lot more help needed. I will be in Winchester Friday evening/night, so either you can get them from me Thursday evening, or I can bring the items I volunteer myself and can drop them at-site Friday afternoon on my way to Winchester if we are so allowed or else bring with me in the morning.

o Electrical outlets - David (bringing power strip), Valerie will also bring one heavy duty and one 'standard' extension cord
o Table - Valerie will bring a card table
o Projector
o Chairs - Valerie will bring 4 folding chairs, but do we need people to 'byoc' (c being chair)?
o Drinks and snacks

Practice throw area
o Masking tape to indicate clear throw space
o Ropes or cables used to suspend pilots from ceiling
o A way to get the ropes or cables hung on the ceiling
o A pulley arrangement or rope routing to hoist pilots into a big swing (see u-tube Skycoaster ride) at the will of the turbulator
o Releases with long strings so the turbulator can release the victim pilot at will
o Ladders or scissor lifts to hook pilots to simulator rope - Valerie will bring an 8ft tall, A-frame ladder
o Soft pad for harness egress
o Paragliding simulators that can be hung from the single rope off the ceiling.
o One light grocery bag for each parachute - Valerie will bring more than enough plastic grocery bags for all

Some hang straps with swivels built in for the throw stations (avoid rope or cable twist)

Packing area
o 1 inspection table with good lighting
o Masking tape to mark identification name on equipment
o At least 3 packing tables (8 or 10’ tables end to end) extending 30’ long.
o Table covers (plastic sheeting) to cover tables if they have any rough or dirty areas -
o Packing weights (tube socks with heavy beans or grains loose in a sealed plastic zip lock bag work great)

Misc stuff you need
o Registration table - Valerie will bring one oblong folding table, 6' long, 2.5' wide, will also bring a desk lamp, should it be needed
o Marker pens - David
o Name tags
o Paper - Valerie will bring an old box of continuous, flat fold printing paper - back when it was tractor fed through a dot matrix printer, about 8" high, should be enough, although I'm not sure what the paper is intended for and if this will suit
o Drinks
o Ropes to partition off the packing area - Valerie will bring some light nylon rope, about 60', more might be nice

I will not bring a ladder after all as it appears it is not needed, and will bring the tables and chairs that I mention, but maybe they are not needed either since I glanced through older posts and saw that pch said: "This is what is 'on site' at the barn: Ladders, scaffolding, chairs, 10 tables(6' & 8'), lecture area adjacent to the barn, and yes we will have access to the barn the night before. The barn is booked for us Sat. June 4th 8:00AM - 8:00PM."
