The recent landing was done in a single surface one size larger than normal.
still, it took some confidence. down wind/uphill is nothing to sniff at.

"Now is the the time to step forward "

In the money where mouth is department (I was intending to hang back myself): If there are three, maybe two, hard commitments on chainsaws, I'll throw in.

Saturday the 28th is on my calendar. I'll make sure the chainsaw is in working order - I gotta put on the new bar and chain I got.

So what day is it going to be? The 27'th or the 28'th? (I saw Matt's post saying Saturday the 28'th).
I can make it on the 28'th. I don't have a chain saw but might be able to get a hold of one.

It seems that during the party a consensus was reached for Saturday the 28th. So, let's show up with chainsaws and loppers and destroy all the living things from those mounds. Whoever gets there first should knock on the door and let them know we're there. Dan has already cleared the effort with the owners.

After the big job of removing the trees and brush is done, we'll assess the situation. Maybe we'll be happy enough with the residual rock mounds. If not, we'll have to decide whether it's worth it to rent heavy equipment to level the mounds.

Saturday the 28th it is. We need chain saws, loppers, and most of all volunteers. Please show up on Saturday the 28th with any tools you have that you think might help.

We are blessed with the cooperation and support of the USFS. I can tell you from my personal travels and meetings with other USHPA Directors that not every USHPA Region is so fortunate. Let's do it justice and make this site available to all pilots.

Mark your calendars for the 28th.

It's located on Serenity Ridge Road which is a gravel road turn off to the right on your way up to launch. There's a sign marking the driveway that says "Mason's".

I'll be there. Don't have a chain saw but can use one if someone has an extra laying around. I can bring some pruning tools if that helps.

I wish I could help with this project, but I'll be travelling for the holidays. I would *really* like to help out with the LZ issues, so if this goes to a second WP, please let us know!

Great time for you all to come together to tear out some flora and I'm hoping that you take the time to mend some fences as well:-)

We are good to go!

Edith's Gap LZ Clean Up
Saturday December 28 9am--4pm
989 Serenity Ridge Road Luray, VA 22835

Work: We have four or five small areas to cut and clean to permit an open flight path without obstacles in the LZ.

Forecast: Sunny 54 degree.

Items to Bring: work gloves, hand saws, chain saws, shovels, axes, and the like.

Please note, the Mason's will be there and want folks parked off the driveway to allow easy passage.

Gary and I will be there with our 2 chainsaws at 9am. I'm also bringing the club weed whacker with the saw blade attachment for someone else to use.

Gents and/or ladies--

I just managed to TOTALLY SHIRK a long time obligation (OK, it's the cousin-who-was-always-good-to-me that is NOT coming to town now) and I would like to join the work party. I could probably find the way myself, but would rather hitch a ride and throw gas $$ at you.

Anyone with space for an extra duff?

Adaptable to your time frame, but prefer a 9:00 AM or later hook-up. I am in Vienna VA, but would suggest we just meet at the traditional Exit 47-B on I-66 (regular hook-up for WS, Daniels, etc). And I would only bring a shovel and an axe.

Although I would bring a wheelbarrow if it were a pick-up or hefty vehicle, I will leave this home. (I haven't seen any strong suggestions that we need wheelbarrows to remove debris to the side, or to pile up for truck removal. Or do we?)

Sorry I am out, it is my wife's significant birthday tomorrow, her family are flying in from Texas (some are already here) and "you can go if you want" permission has been granted but I fear I will never be allowed out again if I were to go...

Good luck

Rich
