I am sorry to write that Ms. Anna has passed. I have attached an e-mail I just received with that sad news as well as my response.

We are sorry to tell you that Anna Reyan passed away early this morning. We would like to thank you for the kindness and consideration the members of your organization have shown to her. Arrangements are being made with the Dalla Valle Funeral Home in Everett, PA (814-652-2148).

Gerald L. Hixson and family

----------------------------
My Reply:

Mr. Hixson,

On behalf of the Capital Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association and the greater Mid-Atlantic free-flying community, you and the Reyan family have our deepest sympathy.

Thank you also for your kind words. If we have been thoughtful toward Ms. Anna, those small gestures were returned and eclipsed by her generosity to us. As free-flight pilots we are fortunate in the glorious way we experience the natural world, but we enjoy those moments only with the munificent assistance of trusting people, like Ms. Anna, who allow us access to their private property. She has made our lives richer and will be sorely missed.

I am sure that those pilots who knew her better than I will want to send personal notes of appreciation and condolence. When you have a moment, please tell me the appropriate place to address them and I will forward the information. Please also let me know if there is anything we can do to assist the family at this time.

Sincerely,
Daniel Broxterman

Unless you already have the Hixson's in your e-mail address book, please do not send your condolences by e-mail. I did not say I would share his e-mail address with the world.

I'll post or have someone else post the appropriate way to send your thoughts.

THANKS!

This is really very sad news. Anna was one tough customer,
staying on at her farm and caring for her animals, pretty much
on her own, into her 80's I think? I admire her for that.

She willingly opened up her property to a bunch of ya-hoos
(us!) just so that we could enjoy some soaring, and asked
nothing in return. The few favors that we were able to do on
occasion, the brief visits after a day of flying (which she clearly
looked forward to)... they don't really seem like all that much
in return for her hospitality, do they? Anna will be missed.

Does anyone know if her services have been held yet?

Ah, never mind, I just saw the mention of "this morning"
in one of the emails. I'll give them a call tomorrow and
see if a date has been set.

I'm sure Ms. Anna's family will appreciate any notes we send. Please
take a moment so express your appreciation and condolences.

I have also forwarded this news to the Wind Riders and Hyner folks.

For those that don't know - Anna was the secondary (now primary) landowner
at Fisher Road. I have no idea how she kept that entire farm running all
those years by herself. Wonderful woman. Sheila
