High Rock on Sun28Jan?

Post by markc »

It's looking like there might be a window on Sunday with
10-15NW, although it will be a mostly cloudy day:

Anyone thinking of giving High Rock a shot? No TFR, at
least as of this morning.

I would be up for giving the Rock a try. Looks like gradually increasing winds during the day.

I would like to fly the Rock tomorrow. Sounds like a good time. Maybe i'll give Eddie a call and see what he's up to.

I've heard that Dan T and Craig are also thinking about it...
So seems like there'll be a crowd if the wind gods are kind.

I'll jump on this bandwagon - closer than
Woodstock. Bailed on flying today (Saturday) and road a bike 45 miles from Purcellville to Rosslyn on the W&OD trail. - Hugh

Looks like they've pushed back the timeframe for the strong
NW winds to blow through, which is probably a good thing.
ADDs 3k 'cast doesn't get cranking until 4:00pm.

There are some drizzlies in western PA; I'd like to watch
them for a while, to see if they continue breaking up.

Assuming they do... Are people still motivated for flying on
a cold gray day??? I think I am!

Hagerstown west at 11 MPH gusting to 20 MPH. Winchester WNW at 15 MPH. The wind is already here. Bacil

I would like to go today also but I'm not sure I trust the forecast for Hagerstown. The maps look rather dynamic and with it already gusting to 20+ it may not be doable at the Rock. Maybe Woodstock if the road is open?

(Where'd you find that G20 report for Hagerstown Bacil?
I don't see it at:

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KHGR.html )

KMRB reported G23 at 10am... Certainly discouraging
for High Rock.

And the real-time site at N. Hagerstown High School had
at 24mph gust at 9:48 :(

So I'm leaning toward Woodstock too, if we hear the
road's open.

I've called everyone I can think of who's likely to know the
status of the Woodstock road, but couldn't get a hold of anyone.
Left messages....

Hopefully someone will post.

Road Status

Post by XCanytime »

Hank said that he would post when the road is open. If he hasn't posted yet, it is highly likely that the road is still closed. Bacil

Got a hold of Joe... He called V-DOT, but no answer. Given that
there's still snow on the mtn and that Hank hasn't posted, he
thinks it's doubtful the road is open.

On the plus side, there *is* some sun just to the
west of Wstock; check out a satellite loop and you'll see.

Joe said his arm could be twisted to do the hike up the back
if people decide to head that way....

Have to admit I'm not hugely motivated, but I could be
convinced by some enthusiastic posts. Any go-getters out there?
