Ignore list, Karma

Post by Spark »

I've noticed that the Oz Report phpBB forum http://ozreport.com/forum/ has a useful feature - when viewing a post, one may select a button labeled 'Ignore', which presumably adds the poster's ID to an 'Ignore List'. While I don't anticipate using such a feature often, I believe it is a feature that our readership might benefit from.

Likewise on the phpBB forum http://www.pgforum.com there is a feature called 'Karma points', whereby users can award positive or negative Karma points to other members.

I like both of these features and would like to see them implemented on our forums.

Do you know if the forums you mention use phpBB Spark?

If they do... Maybe you could do some research on the
implementation of the ignore/karma features, and pass along
a few relevant links?

If they are phpBB mods, and they don't interfere with those
already installed, it might be possible to get them installed.

Here is a link to the Karma Hack

Here is a link to the 'Ignore User' Hack

I'd be happy to assist in testing these mods.

A long-neglected thread, sorry about that 'Spark.

I know that this isn't a great answer, but... In phpBB3, users
will have the ability to ignore/not see users that they specify.
In other words, the functionality of that MOD is being incorporated
into the codebase. And since that's occurring, I'd kinda like to
wait for it rather than installing the MOD.

If the timetable of 3.0 drags out a long time, I definitely will
look into the MOD.

As to the karma points.... Yeah, I've seen boards where that's
done, but it strikes me as a bit to penalizing ya know? I think
if the ignore-user capability is there, then that might be enough?
