Looks like it will be west and mild in the PM tomorrow, just in time for all the New Year's Eve hangovers to wear off in the glow of soarable winds at the Pulpit. It's been soarable at the Pulpit the last 3 New Years Days, and this one is heading that way. Anybody up for it?

My friend Kenny and I went up to there today to find big cloud cover down in both valleys. ( forward and behind the ridge.) Bacil was already there. It was like the following morning of the pulpit fly-in this year. Cloud cover you could walk on...... The fog finally lifted. I waited till 3 to launch into a fan - like wind @ 10-12 off the old ramp. I made a few passes on the ridge. I just couldn't keep the ridge level at bay.......( sunk). I pulled a nice no stepper on top of the knob in the secondary heading N. It was absolutely calm in the LZ.
It was a nice New Year's day to be outside and flying the Pulpit!
What's up with this weather? It was freaky warm.......

All I can say is you should have been there, if only for the stunning vistas that were present. Paraglider pilots would have had easy launching and soaring, it was that smooth and just the right velocity, 10 to 13 MPH and blowing like a fan the whole time I was there, from noon till 4PM. Driving up the backside of Tuscarora Mountain around noon the fog started getting lit up by the sun, and just before the apex I popped thru the top of the canopy to blue skies above. At launch what a view! To the west was a canopy of clouds broken only by portions of Sideling Hill. To the south the same, with only the arrowhead peak of the juncture of Dickeys and Tuscarora Mountains visible. To the east Broad and Kitattiny Mountains were visible above the soup. Around 1:30P the deck in the McConnellsburg valley started breaking up. The sun came out from behind an upper deck of clouds around 2:30P, and a half hour later the valley deck had evaporated. Shawn got a nice extendo around 3P. I think that he could have stayed up if he was closer to the ridge. I picked him up, and back at launch clouds were flowing over the ridge, and the winds were still smooth 10 to 14 MPH. Where were the paraglider pilots???
