Fisher's Rd Status?

Post by theflyingdude »

Anyone know what the current status of the Fisher's Rd site might be? Hunting season is beginning and I was wondering whether the new owners still want us to avoid flying there during this part of the year.

Can't speak to the hunting season, but the current residents seem to be okay with us flying there, though despite all the waivers and regulations we've shown them, they keep mentioning that they are a little worried about liability. Since the advent of the USHGA waivers I don't think we've had to start new waivers with landowners, but that may be what they are hinting.

I'd advise stopping by to talk to them before flying, report back if they are still dropping liability hints. I'm 95% sure they'll be okay with people flying.

Fisher Road Closed

Post by Matthew »

Hey All,

Got this message from Lazlo re- Fisher Road...

*****
Tom and I went there at about 12:30 pm today (Sunday). Before going up to launch, we asked the folks whether its OK to fly. A guy in his 40s (?)
told us that his father advised him that "there should be no more landing on his property, and anyway, they plan to grow crops on the landing field". We left --
Tom drove home, I went to check Pulpit out -- the direction was Ok (a
bit SW), but very weak, so I also drove home.

Best,

Laszlo

******

We need someone who qualifies as a Good Ol' Boy to go up there and talk to them. Anyone wanna volunteer?

Pennsylvania has a Recreation Land Use Law that does quite a bit to protect property owners who allow others to participate in recreation on their land. A description of it is at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/brc/RUWLA%2 ... alFpdf.pdf

Armed with this and the strength of the USHPA waiver might help with negotiations.

I did drop a copy of that off (plus the USHGA waiver) with them this summer, but they weren't around at the time so couldn't discuss it face to face. Our flying status there clearly needs to be renegotiated from the ground up, by someone (along the lines as Matt started and Gary Devan reworded) who doesn't reek of yuppie. Rules quite a few of us out. The son does seem to be pretty friendly.

I just ordered our annual citrus gifts for our landowners, and I included Fisher's (Bill Reyan). If no one can go out to talk with them in the next few weeks, perhaps we can send a nice letter. Not sure what it would say, though...

Well, I know all the words to the Dukes of Hazzard song. I sure as hell don't reek of YUPPIE PUKE.I'm off this Friday,so I could roll up there armed with fruit, waiver and DCNR form.( I need all three) I couldn't open up the DCNR form from the link. If they are not around friday, I could try again saturday if one of you city slickers want to join me. It's all right I know the words to yell at the house ,so they will slide the shot gun barrel back in the window! ( I'm kidding here! Come on! Forget about it!)
I never met them. I'm sure they are super nice folks. They just have some concerns is all.
Let me know what youin's think of this plan.
I'll wear my flannel, John Deer hat, and shit kickers.

okay, you get the best laugh award for today. really, that was a hoot. :D :D :D :D :D :D
since my name popped up (and brian didn't misquote me) - but what i mainly meant was that (and i don't know these individuals) it used to be that there were club members who made a point of staying in contact with landowners and knew who didn't need or want visits and knew who liked to feel our appreciation on a regular basis - just a drop in, a visit, a chat for no reason - so they didn't feel like we were a bunch of carpetbagger types. quite often you sort of need to be of their experience to read them well. that's the case everwhere, really.
don't no one go getting defensive on me now, because i'm the last person to fit the bill - on first impression, i can elicit distrust in people that takes years to displace !

Shawn - you're hired! If I can find my copy of the PA regs I'll email it to you, unless Dave Bodner beats me to it. But you better ditch that pesky little compact car you have and outfit yourself with a pickup and hound dog or two. If you got a poodle at home don't even think about it....

Gary - we DID have a good relationship with the landowner (mainly through the ongoing efforts of Steve Kingsley), but she picked up and moved to a whole new plane of existence, leaving us behind to start over with her relatives. Somehow HG never makes it into last wills and testaments.

oh yeah, and before that, eric logan for the longest of time. i guess the history lesson is that there always needs to be those 'somebodies' who step up and connect with the individuals. me? i'm just moving the conversation along.

My car is a 4 door VW, meaty engine. My dog is a pitbull. Don't you remember when you entered my camp at Hyner? She bought bit your raisin sac off! So, i'll cruise up there friday sometime, and saturday if nobody is home.....
Peace, Shawn.[/quote]

Shawn

Thanks for volunteering to talk to the landowner. Just to make sure you know everything, we also buy insurance for that landowner every year (I believe it is a $1 million policy). The insurance even pays lawyers' fees in case someone sues them. This insurance and the landowner liability statute has been very effective in protecting landowners. I would even offer to pay a reasonable fee for access to their fields.

Thanks again.

The Hardwicks were especially close to Anna--might be worth asking Brian what he thinks could be done.

I think what I left with them was one of the old HG magazines, the new ones no longer have the waiver.

Go to the ushga site and click on renew and join. Though I think you are having pdf problems, in which case nobody can help you. You have to find an up to date acrobat reader, dude. Just pull it off the net.

shawn, this is really low tech, but, depending how desperate and how many pages are involved - you could always use the 'take a picture of the screen' trick and then mess about with the sizing to fit it on a printed page.
i do mac so don't know the commands otherwise.
(hope i didn't make any of you computer geeks snort your drink ! )
or some one could GO TO THE TROUBLE  of e-mailing them to you... i mean, since you're being the heroe and all.

Gary - good idea. i did what I could, but the resolution when that thing fits on a screen is not so good. I did some image processing, but it is legible, not beautiful.

I had to work today. ( Thought I would be off).
I spoke to Steve Kinsley and he and I are planning a drive over there tomorrow AM.
