pilot new to the area

Post by talafous_joe »

Hey everyone,

Let me (re-) introduce myself: my name is Joe Talafous, a relatively new pilot (still H2) recently moved from Atlanta to Germantown, MD. I've got 33 flights under my belt, most rcently in April at LMFP in GA. About an hour soaring, but mostly sled runs so far :(

If anybody is going out to fly and can use a driver or a wire crew, or just someone to tag along, please let me know. I want to start learning the sites here and maybe I will be hardy enough to do some winter flying in my WW Falcon 2 195 eventually. Thanks!

Hi, Joe-

Welcome to our little corner of free-flying heaven! First off, you should buy a copy of the Midatlantic Site Guide for details, especially protocol, on local sites. The most frequently flown by HG pilots in our area are: Bill's Hill, Pulpit, High Rock & Woodstock. Info on the Guide is here http://www.chgpa.org/SiteInfo/siteinfo.html. You probably know this already...we are also incredibly fortunate to have two flight parks within a 2 hour drive run by some of the best in the biz: Blue Sky and Highland Aerosports.

Your next task is to connect with a few observers who can guide you at local sites. Send me a message at president@chgpa.org and I'll send you a document we've put together to help observers and H2's work well with each other. It also has fairly up-to-date contact info on observers.

The Christmas party next week would be a great place for you to meet some observers, including the host, Matthew Graham. Hope you can make it.

Best,
Daniel

Hi Joe,

nice meeting you. My name is Janni and I live in Bethesda. I'm always keen on car-pooling, especially in times of global warming (that why I bought a truck with 2WD only LOL). Let's hook up and go flying together.
Send me a private message or give me a call (240-481-6337).

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the advice. I definitely want to learn the protocol here. Today to the Pulpit with Shawn, and I am going tomorrow to meet with John Middleton to get checked out. Sooner or later, I will be flying here!

I need get my parachue repacked eventually, last time I took a clinic at our club from Betty at High Energy Sports... it was great:

I want to get down to Woodstock, I heard it is great. Also, there will be a message about how to get to the Holiday party, right? I'm looking forward to that.
