High Rock Sat.
Most forecasts now seem to be looking a bit more reasonable for the Rock. I should be there about 10:30.

Saturday...
There was wave alright. It started at 4K MSL and went up to 15K MSL. I only managed to get to 12.5K; 3 1/2 hours all in wave. At altitude, wind was 70 mph. The LS-8 handled that with aplomb. Looked like HR would have be pretty strong but guess we'll find out at Brian's party... on the way there now.

The tree is out of the way now. Randy used the tractor to pull it out of the road. Many thanks Gary and Dave for your kind assistance on launch. I had a marginal launch
but the air was very nice and smooth. Flew for about 1:10 and max gain was 1000' over. The wind arrow and it's tower are down in the LZ. It must have come down in the storm yesterday. Emma said the winds were very strong with many gusts over 50 mph. The tower broke at the base due to rusting out of the legs. We are going to need a metal worker to get it fixed. Any ideas? I will help pay if we need to hire someone to fix it.

Kelvin,
Glad you had a great flight.
I will take a look at the tower next time I get out there. Shouldn't be too big a deal to fix. Might not be too bad an idea to add one of the windsock poles like we have at the pulpit adjacent to the tower to help on those light and switchy days? Also gives an indication of strength.

Windsock
If a wind sock is being erected, it might be a good idea to have it located at the SW tree line so that it would be visible from launch.

Danny,
Good point. Next time we are at the Rock we will have to survey that corner of the LZ. Maybe we can put a windsock pole out of the top of one of the trees in the corner or along the treeline adjacent to the gap. On the far side of the gap (away from launch) might be a good location as it would be visible from launch and very visible from anywhere on approach.

Sparky and I did put a pole up one of the trees before the HR 25th - in a few years the tree grew up over it. Also hard to maintain once the flag became shredded. I think the grass gives a better return on the investment, though you may find a more clever way to deal with the tree than we did. Getting a 50 pound pole up high enough to poke 10 feet above the tree was something of an adventure. Nearly lost my gonads when it started to slip.
