I haven't flown High Rock in FOREVER, so I'm hoping for a
decent day up there on Sunday. Pulpit 'cast is like 100%
cloud cover, but only 60% at the Rock.
Anyone want to give it a try?

I'll be there too, ETA 11:00. RIght now at Fairfield airport it's NW at 5 on the ground and overcast. Looks promising!
Went to HR yesterday arriving at 11:30. It was deserted and calm. Hung out till noon then retreated to Fairfield and put the long wings on my sailplane. I launched into an overcast sky that had some texture to the bottoms. Released at 2500 AGL and hung out there for a bit, caught a thermal to 3K AGL finding light wave then climbed to about 3500 AGL. Flew around in and out of the wave until some breaks in the clouds appeared disrupting the wave. Thermals off the hilltops down low sustained me for a bit but eventually I landed with 1:30 added to the log book.
While breaking down the glider, the wind freshened and I scooted back to HR. It was coming in at 8 to 10, smooth and nicely soarable. Another pilot had been there earlier as evidenced by streamers having been erected on the pilars. No launch crew and out of time (it was now about 3:45) I opted not to assemble.

Excellent! I'll be there too, though maybe more like noon or so.
The ADDs 3k forecast is calling for 15-20 NW in PA at 4pm,
reaching down just to the MD line.
So maybe we'll see some soarable winds later in the day!
(That's what happened at the Pulpit yesterday. Started ramping
up at 3:30, blowing out the PGers. Brain-dead soarable until
sunset, but the HGers had all left.)

Well, it was pretty good for most of Ya'll....( danny b, carlos w, mark c, dave p , doug rodgers, tim h. joe , bruce, tom..... hope i didn't miss anyone.....
I got some good pointers today... (ways to stay in the air)......thanks you guys...
Hope that john M. had a good day teaching @ smithsburg.......
Oh, BTW, who ever owns the ropes for the wire crew, I picked them up
as I was leaving ... so, I have them.....
My friend, Rhonda, loved the whole experience...... she would like to go tandem.... If anyone has the rating, time and glider... please let me know......

Unusually nice day today! Certainly not brain-dead soarable, with flush
cycles claiming pilots of every experience level. But even so, *way*
better than what I expected.
Would have been happy with a sled since I haven't launched from
the Rock in probably 6 months. But as luck would have it, I scraped
my way above to the right of launch, and then got to fly for a couple of
hours. Best I managed was 1800' over, in a gaggle with Joe, Kelvin,
Danny, and others.
(Joe, I feel like I may have cut you off twice. If that's the case
you are invited to chew me out when next we meet!)
Best part of the flight for me was near the end : made a couple
bad choices and found myself struggling below launch, working
that shelf/bench just below the cube. Stuck with it forever, clawing
a few feet at a time back to launch level and then back above.
Phew!!! Tired, sore, but sure felt good!
Hoping for more days like this before winter really gets going...

I have to agree that it was a great day at the rock. I cannot remember the last time I flew the Rock. Tom launched first into the North cross and slid to the LZ. I (not being the sharpest tool in the shed) suited up. The streamers seemed to be a little straighter in so I launched. Got above launch and then found some thermals in the saddle on the other side of the rock pile. Got to +600, played around for awhile and then the switch got thrown. I headed out to the LZ and landed after about 1/2 hr. Later it got better and I jumped off again for another half hour in ridge lift with Mark C, Tom, and Doug Rogers. Lots O'pilots in attendance.

Danny, observing my flying needs real help, took pity and kicked me off again @ about 3:30 into the Forest Gump of brain dead soaring. As the light
began to fade and a few drops fell I left the ridge @ 2550 & got over the LZ
@ 19 & change. Thanks Dan, Bruce, Kelvin & Dave for making it happen, I
owe you guys a few for that one.
