Hi Everyone,
I haven’t been active on this forum for many months. Not surprisingly, it seems that nothing much has changed. It’s still Marco against everyone else. Gotta give you credit, Marco, you are consistent and persistent.
The reason I am back posting here is that I just returned from the heart of red state country (Wichita, Kansas) where my family gathered to say goodbye to my Mom who just passed away at 90. One of my brother-in-laws and his siblings are the epitome of extreme right wing, Christian conservatives. These people are highly educated and successful business people and my brother- in-law is president of the Wichita Country Club but they have become totally drunk on the Republican Koolaid.
While attending a family dinner I overheard a conversation that these mental giants were having.
It seems that someone’s nephew, who is currently stationed in Iraq, sent home an email telling about his job there. Supposedly numerous sights have been found containing nerve gas and other WMD’s. This soldier has been busy cleaning up these sights, helping tend to the locals who are ill from living nearby and finally covering these sights with concrete. The supposed reason we haven’t heard about this in the news is that they’re afraid that the “liberal news media “ will force the release of the whereabouts of these sights and the insurgents will find them and use them against us.
I listened in amazement while these people all completely ate up this incredible tale. Finally, not being able to keep my mouth shut any longer, I asked in disbelief,”You’re not really buying this are you?”
My brother-in-law quickly turned to me and literally spit out the words, “Well I can show you the email!”
I pointed out the numerous and obvious flaws with the possibility that this could be happening in secrecy or that a soldier involved with such a secret operation would casually write home about it, not to mention the fact that Bush would not hide this info for 10 seconds considering what it could do for him and the Republican cause. It was to no avail. These people are so far gone that no amount of logic or reason could convince them that this was obvious internet garbage. They will grasp at anything that supports their cause no matter how ridiculous.
I find it extremely worrisome.

My sister-in-law is from the heart of Kansas--her politics make the Bushites look like pansy liberals--so I think I know what you are talking about. People of extreme religious conviction are capable of believing--and doing--anything.

Great Googly-moo!
I seem to recall a few months ago that 20-odd year-old nerve gas shells were found buried where even the Iraqi's had forgotten about them. Some from the more insane wing of the Republican party siezed on this find as proof of the Administration's claims of WMDs. Anyway, these old shells were found, and I suppose were cleaned up.
