Looking good for the Pulpit Saturday. Hopefully the weather holds and brings out many pilots again.

I'll be at the Pulpit early tomorrow in the chill. Winter flying is here. Should be enough wind for ridge lift and a good mix of thermals with the cold night, low dewpoint, and plentiful sun tomorrow. Goal: Chambersburg to meet up with some general aviation pilots.

I'm willing to give the mtns a gamble today... The Dulles balloon
data shows winds a bit stronger than have been forecast (16kts
at 900', 19kts at 3000'), so perhaps that plus the Pulpit effect will
make for a good day.

I think Matthew and Karen are in, perhaps Dan T as well.
I'll hit the road around 9:30 or so.

We're in... though a little later-- ETA 1pm. No need to stand around freezing.

Arrived at 10:40. Light day - ended up with a pleasant sled at 3:15.
Longer report, naming names and such, on my blog (link below).

Ah well, it was a gamble....

Arrived around 11:00, to find Lazslo, Craig, Danny B, and Bacil
already there. Went up top and saw that the winds were.... well,
pretty much non-existent, sigh.

Later arrivals included PGers Stephane, Matthew, Karen, John M, and Hugh,
and HGers Carlos, Gregor, Glenn, and Janni.

Many PG sleds commenced. Lazslo had a brief flight above launch.
That, plus some decent winds at around 1:00, convinced me not to
bail to High Rock.

But the hoped for improvement with the sun crossing over the ridge never
materialized. I finally launched at about 2:30 and got briefly above,
along with John M in his PG. Then I struggled at ridge level, and then
over Rt 16 down by the LZ. Managed maybe 15 minutes before I had
to land. I have an annoying feeling that I could have made better
decisions and perhaps been up for a while. Oh well, live and learn.

I saw Glenn have a brief soaring flight from the LZ. Gregor and Craig
also gave it a try, but the rest of the HG contingent broke down up top.
Not sure if any of the other PGers had soaring flights or not.

No real soaring, but hey, not a bad day, and fairly warm in the sun
in the setup area. Beats workin!
