Chili Fest 11/11 - Final Highland Weekend

Post by aerosports »

As a final bang to the season, we'll be having our first chili fest on the evening of Saturday 11/11. If you have any good recipes bring a pot out with you (I'll be making my 5 alarm, so bring some beer!), or just come out to eat and enjoy a bonfire. Hopefully, we'll get some good flying in on Saturday and Sunday before we shut down.

Hope to see you out here!
Adam

Is this a cook-before-you-come deal, or will you have the fire pit going so we can cook it there? It may be chilly for cooking outside, but it could be fun if in the 60's.

Will Highland be closed for the winter after 11/12 or will there be any occasional open days?

I'm going to be whipping mine up the night before (but I'm being optimistic and assuming I'll be tired from a long day of flying). We'll have the stove in the kitchen available for use, or certainly use the fire if you can stand the heat. Let's just hope it isn't blowing 20 and keeping us from having a fire.

Yes John, we'll be closing for the season after the 12th. Unfortunately, the engines have to come of of both airplanes and it is going to be a busy winter. We'll be reopening on Saturday March 3rd.

Lets hope for some good weather for the weekend.

I'll be there as well, with chili... Smoke em if you got'em.. asbestos apparel optional... Just kidding, mine won't be too hot (not to me anyway), but I will bring pickled Jalapenos just in case.

Well, the weather looks dismal but at least we'll have good food and fire. I'm thinking things will get rolling at around 4:00 tomorrow for anyone attending. Hope to see you guys out here.

I would have to say the chili fest was a grand success. It was honking so we didn't get to fly. We had lots of people, lots of different chili, lots of beer. My personal chili was living proof that given enough pickled jalapenos, sour cream, and cheese, hang glider pilots will eat anything ;-) Some brought chili, others brought desserts and munchies, and almost everyone brought beer, so a good time was had by all. Got to watch parachutist drop in when it was blowing 20 mph aloft, interesting. Fire in the pit later.

Thanks to the whole Highland Crew for another great season. And a special thanks to Barb for keeping us all in line... sort of. You guys enjoy your off season.. when you aren't rebuilding tugs etc. Maybe Adam can avoid leaving any pools of blood in the half pipe this winter. I am sure Scott will keep him out of trouble ;-)
