Urban whitewater

Post by mcelrah »

I was out for a run yesterday (28 October) and noticed the river (NE branch of the Anacostia) was high after the rain. Went home and hurried to put the canoe on the car before predicted high winds started. Son Jasper and I did about 3 miles from Riverdale Park to Bladensburg marina. While not exactly whitewater, there were some 1 foot standing waves, mostly in the upper part of the course. There are some little rapids under every bridge along the way. Chased a great blue heron down the river. Then we joined members of Jasper's Scout troop bukoding a "punkin' chunkin'" catapult. Ridgely flyers see the "punkin' chunkin'" NOTAM for someplace in Delaware soon... - Hugh
