Kevin is a DAD!
Most would have to see it to believe it but Kevin is officially the proud dad of a beautiful baby girl. Amber was born on Saturday and weighed in a hair over 6.5 lbs. Melanie is the rock star of child birth, finding every possible opportunity to smile and deny my claims that, "its all my fault" peppered between "I'm sorry's" and "you are doing greats."

Well, welcome to this world little Amber and congrats to Kev and Melanie!
Considering the passion you give to such trivial matters as freeflight and endurance sports, I can't imagine the energy you'll put into your family life. Cheers to the wonderfam! ~Daniel

Kevin,
Dadness is a great thing, even when you hit the rough spots. You'll love it.
Heartiest congrats to you and Melanie.
Now.. my financial advice for fathers of girls: Looking down the road, you are probably planning some form of college education savings/investment program. To do that, you need to pick a number of years you intend to pay for (4, 5, whatever), and an estimated cost per year to cover. Add one more year at that annual cost, and call it the wedding fund. (Just remember, you can't do that with money in one of the state-sponsored tuition pre-pay programs.)
(Official duties of the FotB - Father of the Bride: Fetch this, pay that. Repeat. Been there, done that.)
Second piece of advice. When my first was born, I said I was gonna get a rocking chair and shotgun for my lap for the front porch when she turned 16. That's too late. Get the chair and gun when she is 11.

You guys crack me up!
The shotgun is on order.....
If there is any part of fatherhood I have prepared for, its the teen years! I have the first 23 chapters of the manual on boys written in my head, along with the classroom discussions we will have. Hopefully we wont need to bring out the baseball bat come 2022.

Hah hah hah John!--I'm still having nightmares from that night by the fire at Quest, it's a wonder nobody got hurt tripping over that firehose (sound of horses harumphing in the background).John Simon wrote:Awesome Kevin,
