Thanks for the heads-up, Rich.

In past years, one of the activities at the festival has been helicopter rides up and down the valley from the fair grounds.

Helicopters and hang gliders don't mix well in close proximity.

A couple of times, Brian or I have gone down to find the helicopter pilot and let him know that Part 103 a/c would be in the air near the ridge. He has always been understanding and helpful, including agreeing to stay more in the middle of the valley, away from the ridge. We also pointed out to him tha the could tell his pax they might get to see us flying.. a PR plus.

If anyone flies the Pulpit, be sure to keep an eagle eye out for the chopper. If he is flying, a volunteer might want to hit the fairgrounds and do the quick brief Brian and I have done.

I keep getting credit for things I didn't do. The helicopter foresight was all yours, Cragin.

I often forget things I do, too. This is usually a good thing.

On arriving at Kirshners on Saturday I was surprised to see part of the LZ occupied with tents, teepees, vehicles, people in British military costumes, and spectators. Walking in, the land owner approached me and said he thought it would probably be OK for us to fly since most of the LZ was open and I figured with the wind direction it would work. After we set-up and moved over to where we do warm up runs, I was approached by a man that said they had been doing live ammo musket demonstrations shooting in the area where we land. I suggested that we work together and any anytime they were going to do one he would signal me and we would stop flying. After a while I went over to talk to him again and he had decided that it was unsafe and though angry he decided to pack up and leave also saying that the land owner should have communicated to us about this event so that we didn't come.

Turned out to be one the better flying/teaching days Kirshners for the year and my students got a lot of flights and Paul Adamis got his FL signoff.
