Republicans will win in November
We have a war in Iraq that cost us fourteen more soldiers this week, an average of one hundred Iraq's a day and we are five years into it, three quarters of a trillion dollars spent and all we hear on the news is a sex instant message scandel on the news. Republicans control much of the news industry, the oil industry and most everything else. The Republicans get out the vote better than the Democrats, have a religous voting block that simply 'believes in their political savior' no matter what and the rest of the American public don't even know what is going on.
We deserve to loose our freedom by our apathy and stupidity of voting for fear and religion. Unfortunately I believe the country will do just that.
Joe

Ah, cheer up! Even if the Republican party of hypocrisy and greed retains control of the House and Senate (which I doubt), this will just set them up to keep digging the hole that may send them into the political wilderness for a generation - again (like after the depression and Vietnam/Watergate). Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Hastert have already (unfortunately) given counter-proliferation and domestic surveillance a bad name by their over-reaching - they may succeed in giving so-called conservatism such a bad reputation that liberalism will make a comback... You couldn't design a better scenario for showing these turkeys up for the corrupt and immoral hacks that they truly are, than what is playing out before our eyes. Did you catch Bill Moyers' show about Abramoff, Ralph Reed, Grover Norquist , and Delay? What a gang of slimeballs from central casting! Now Rove's (formerly Abramoff's) deputy has had to resign... "You can fool some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time." - Abraham Lincoln

Hey Joe, I think you are finally coming around !!!
I agree that the GOP will retain both houses of Congress due in large part to conservative Christians substantially participating in the voting process. God bless these upstanding, salt-of-the-earth American citizens who want to save our great country from immoral, if-it-feels-good-do-it liberal theocracy.
And I further agree that much of the general public does not follow the news and current events as much as we do, and therefore do not vote in off-year elections, especially when things are going well economically ( 6.6 million new jobs, Stock Market at near record highs, gas prices down, and relatively low unemployment).
I have not lost any rights....can you name me anyone who has lost their rights, and which rights they have lost?
The Clintonistas always said, "It's the economy, Stupid". I don't hear too much Dem whining about a "jobless recovery" anymore, as they did in 2004.
So, I predict that the conservatives will once again be victorious in November as they are "more motivated" than Dems, who continue to offer no solutions or coherent agenda, other than higher taxes and bigger government. With the economy purring along, just hating Bush and hypocritically denouncing Foley will not win you guys any elections.....but I could be wrong We'll see.

Ok, I'll bite: you have lost the right to be secure from unreasonable search and seizure, to wit: you personal communications may be monitored by the executive branch on the assertion that you are a terrorist or terrorist supporter with no oversight from the judicial branch of government.
Next, you have lost the right to be secure in your person from imprisonment without charge or recourse to the coursts, again on the executive branch's assertion that you are an "illegal combatant". This has happehed to real people, U.S. citizens, sometimes by mistaken identity, who were arrested and held for months without a court appearance - or even the government admitting to their relatives that they were in fact being held.
Third, you have lost the right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment, to wit "alternative interrogation techniques". Now, as an alumnus of the waterboard, I recognize that it is not in the same class as breaking bones, but I was in a Navy training situation, so I had a pretty good idea that these goons weren't actually going to drown me - not the same if you are an illiterate Afghan Talib. But the main point is that this tinkering with international standards brings the U.S. into disrepute and endangers our own military and CIA personnel, who cannot now object on moral/legal grounds to any "alternative technique" to which they may be subjected. And, to conclude, information obtained under duress is profoundly suspect, to the point that it's not usable.

Marco,
You do not at all understand my comments. I in no have come around to your twisted immoral view of the world. I would rather die a free liberal than say I support any of the actions of this Republican administration. Hugh has it right on the mark about the freedoms we Americans have lost to the executive branch tyrants now running the country.
On the up side is your total blindness to reality. You won't see the train run you over.
Joe

Joe,
Despite your twisted and immoral view of the world, you do manage to stumble into reality just enough to realize that the GOP will win again in November. If you really want to die a "free liberal", hopefully of old age, you should be supporting the actions of the Bush Admin in the GWOT, as former Dem Vice Prez Candidate Joe Liebermann and Ed Koch do.
Of course, your liberal bias and near-total blindness to reality won't allow you to do this...but I'm working on ya  .
So kudos for at least being able to recognize the upcoming GOP victory....it's a start.

Marco,
If the Republicans win, it will no doubt be because they have rigged the voting. Check this out: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/10/18/85915/109
It's one of many stories on the shenanigans your fellow Repubs are up to.

Christy,
It's like the old saying goes: It's not so important who votes, or even how many people vote, but what is ultimately most important is WHO COUNTS THE VOTES.
Since the GOP counts all the votes, I am confident that the GOP will win again !!! Thank God for that Diebold Corporation !!! Remind me to buy more of their stock.
Marco
PS: Did you notice anything climbing above 12,000 lately (financially speaking)?

Well Marco I see you have adopted the tactics of Joe Stalin with your view of what it takes to win an election i.e. "...what is ultimately most important is WHO COUNTS THE VOTES." You state you are confident the GOP will win because the GOP counts all the votes seemingly with the help of Diebold Corporation. What kind of moral value is this?

You are all about money again and again and again. Maybe your message is more money more moral, more stock more moral, more stuff more moral.

Hey Joe, I'm with Hugh on this one....I'd love to be filthy rich, but unfortunately that's not going to happen, unless I win the lottery. And what's wrong with having more disposable income....more hang gliders & equipment to buy.....you gotta problem with that?Joe Schad wrote:

And I thought you Dems credo was: "It's the economy stupid"....doesn't that mean having more money?
As for counting the votes, I just love to feed into Dem paranoia about vote rigging, especially with the electronic voting systems.

okay, these 'military times' (?) papers have come out and called rummy and dis-administrations handling of iraq a failure.
and all these other conservative honchos are dissing dis-administration, as briefly encapsuled by Howard Kurtz in todays Washington Post.
"Conservative commentators and radio hosts usually provide a cheering section for Republicans, but a striking number say the GOP should be punished this year for straying from conservative principles. Some, like Christopher Buckley and Jonah Goldberg, have said the Republicans deserve to lose the House. Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit.com says the GOP seems to have a "bizarre death wish." George Will calls it "disgusting" that the White House refuses to acknowledge the depth of the fiasco in Iraq. Andrew Sullivan says he feels "betrayed" by the administration's botching of the war and the use of torture against terrorism suspects. Others have complained about overspending and the mishandling of the Foley debacle."
it having been established that marco zee is not marc fink,
AND,
shrub having famously said, that he stay will the course, even if his only remaining supporters are his wife and his dog.
can it be surmised
(logically or otherwise)
that 'marcos' name,
is,
in reality,
NOT marco,
BUT,
either laura or barney?

In my opinion, the vote tuesday, as your quote above suggests, was more a vote AGAINST the Republicans who have abandoned many of their CONSERVATIVE principles, more so than a vote FOR Dems, who continue to have no clear agenda, especially on national security and Iraq policies. Small consolation to me & other conservatives, but certainly a silver lining for 2008, assuming we clean up our act and return to a true conservative/reform agenda.
And Joe, I feel really bad having to tell you this, but you were wrong again......the GOP got its butt kicked on tuesday,.... although a switch of only 15,000 votes or so in VA and MT could have resulted in the GOP holding these two tightly-contested seats.....but a win is a win, and I'm not one to gripe over a narrow loss. Of course, I was hoping you would have been right, and the GOP would have at least held the Senate (maybe Joe Liebermann will switch parties......yeah, I know, wishful thinking). How ironic is it that a true "Reagan Democrat" in VA helped the Dems win back the Senate.
But its not the end of the world....others have had to deal with a Congress controlled by another party in the past, and the country survived. Reagan had a 55-45 Dem Senate and a 50+ Dem advantage in the House to deal with in his last two years in office.
There is now a huge honus on the Dems too.....they cannot just be an opposition party any longer,.... they have to get legislation passed, budgets passed, etc, to prove their worthiness to keep the Congress. All 435 seats will be up for re-election in two years. And with a Dem Senate, some of those older liberal geezers on the SCOTUS may decide to retire now, or in the near future, allowing Bush to nominate their replacements.
The campaign for 2008 is now underway.....should be an interesting next two years. If the GOP had to be whipped, better in 2006 than in 2008.

how's that quote go?
democracts are the worst political party - except for all the others?

paraphrasing that blind, arrogant, smug pr--k bumsfield -
you kick out the corrupt/arrogant/bastards you've got - not the ones who aren't there.

there's probably some truth in that.
except for that stunned look on georgies face, one might be tempted to believe this was all just another masterful plot by karl. i mean really, karl had to know , early, what a bunch of scumbags were in his party and he worked out the best plan for what he had. give the electorate 2 years to forget and then start lying to them all over again.
"a uniter, not a divider". what do you think their big lie will be next time?

you are NOT going to believe this !
i'm waiting around at the airport for a flight to come in
and i had this flashback-like event happen.
this hahri-krishna (sp?) (you remember the guys? pastel robes? bald heads with a little pigtail-like thing on the backs of their heads? tamborines? - yeah! those guys.)
well i hadn't seen any of These guys around since forever !
you neither? i didn't think so.
so anyhow...
this harry-kirshner stops me,
and goes about trying to sell me some pamphlets and stuff.
don't ask me to explain how i knew, i just did.
i says " MARCO ?!! "
he says " GARY ?"
i says "so... you took the election pretty hard, huh ? "
he says "that's all in the past. "
"but look at this ! one little pamphlet - all the answers ! "
"i just bought the whole bunch from those guys over there "
"they threw in the robes for nothing ! "
" but this haircut?" "i gotta tell ya - i feel a little scalped. "
"yeah", i says. "i can see how you might feel a little raw..."
