Would like to...
... fly tomorrow but I have a family thing to do.
Post frontal, HR will be good bordering on "sporty"... McC'burg will be rather sportier. TFR is up... make sure it's expired before jumping off the Rock. Tell Mrs. Emma I said hi.

I'll be weighing HRock vs Pulpit tomorrow AM, just like everyone
else, I suppose
If it looks like there will be some clearing out at the Pulpit
by mid-afternoon, I'll probably head there.
But if things slow down, then High Rock might be the call
(subject to TFR of course).
Nice dilemma to have, eh?

PS: Ok day at Highland today. Had one flight with a few gains
of several hundred feet, and a late day flight when the sun
was shining on the bay. Nice!

There's a single blob-o-rain that looks like it might
hit Pulpit and/or High Rock... but I'm encouraged by
the satellite loop, I think things will be clearing out,
and sooner than yesterday's forecasts indicated.
So I plan to head to the Pulpit, ETA about 11:30.
High Rock TFR expires at 1:00pm, last I checked.
Heard from Dave, and he's planning the same thing.
Let's fly!!!

Extendo,
Shawn and I were wind dummies....sorry I can only speak for myself, I'm the dummy, I mean skilled pilot that should have waited 5 more minutes.....but then I would have gotten wet! Dave P, Marc C and Carlos were all way south and still up when I bailed.I'll let them tell that part. Pretty clouds all day at the pulpit.

I went first. Had a bit of an extendo. I should have waited, but it was a wacky, weird, weather soup over in Mcconellsburg. I helped Mark C., and Carlos off. They had great flights later along with Dave P.
I'm glad I went, I flew today!!!!!!!
I understand from Brian VH, through Mike L's phone that they all had a great day at the Rock.................
Good for you guys!!!!!!
Peace, Shawn.

Sunday...
Good for you guys that you got to fly! Cranking WNW in B'more all afternoon and rather gusty at times on the ground. Sky was tough to read with a mix of high CU, low CU, and the occasional high cirrus moving through. All the clouds looked rather ripped up though and at one point it looked as if it would OD. Waiting for the reports from the sailplane pilots.

Huh? I heard quite a drastically different report from one of the Pulpit pilots who flew today. It involved squalls popping up left and right, full VG to avoid the squalls, gust fronts, getting rained on in the air and at launch and pilots landing out to avoid storms.
We had a squall pass to the south of launch at HR today and another pass North of Route 16. Early luanch conditions were good. But became squirrelier as the day progressed. A couple times winds picked up enough that the Falcons had trouble penetrating. I missed any of the tough conditions and got an almost hour long flight and 2K over. Despite the sometimes difficult conditions, everyone had safe launches and landings.
Even Steve.

I think his post was tongue in cheek, picked Shawn up,helped wire Mark and Carlos, came back down to get some info for Shawn, when we got back up top Shawn bailed, only 1 pilot still up,think it was Mark, watched him land and went home,at that time it was really cranking at launch, some rain had reached launch and appeared to follow the ridge south.Launches were in moderate 10-15 conditions but picked up after Carlos launched.
Running from the rain
The pattern seem to be clear, thick ugly cloud, clear. Each cycle took about an hour. The conditions were launchable from the time I got there until I launch. The only question for me was a sled to the secondary or not. Shawn and Joe launch in the first clear cycle, I think. It seemed Joe was maintaining, but not for long. On the second cycle Dave launched and quickly worked his way up. Another dark cloud system moved in, we could see streaks in the horizon that could be rain or sun shining thru the clouds. After waiting a few minutes we realize it was the sun shinning thru. The sun arrived and Mark decided to launch and I followed. Thanks to Rich and Shawn to help us launch. Before I launch the next dark cloud was closer. Once in the air I realized the streaks under clouds was not the sun, this time it was rain. I flew south at ridge level following Dave and Mark. I started spotting LZ’s in front of the ridge. I was staying ahead of the rain but although at ridge level I wasn’t gaining much, fewer fields further south. Found a big field flew over it to spot obstructions and landed there. I unhooked and the rain squall got the glider wet.
