With the crappy weekend forecast, Karen and I ventured out to Highland Thursday afternoon. Got there about 3:30 and John Simon was up high and staying up in nothing but blue. Another couple of gliders were also up. I launched around 4:40 and Jim Rooney dropped me off an a nice big one. Climbed up to 4700' and then found the giant sink monster that claimed some others. But I hit some light bubbles over Clark's Race Track Road and climbed up a couple of hundered feet, lost a couple of hundred, gained a couple of hundrered and so on for about ten minutes. I saw some birds circling over the LZ and I headed their way. I arrived just in time for them to leave and zoom over to where I had just been. Damned birds!!!! I have yet to have birds help me out in flight. They always screw me over. Got 46 minutes. Took another flight at the end of the day in buoyant air just to make an hour's airtime for the day. Karen had three flights including a susnet flight to 3500'. And Heather Simon had a decent flight.
The Highland crew was doing some tandems, including Heather's parents, and a few guys were doing pattern tows and working on their landings. Met a couple in theire late 50s who just started training. Fun day and crystal clear skies.

Ridgley Thursday...
Interesting report on the blue conditions on the shore. In B'more, there was a fantastic sky filled with high CU. Steeting was solid and went from horizon to horizon. Guess the horizon didn't strech across the bay.

Cloud Street
Hi Danny,
There wer streets as far as the eye could see here in DC as well when we left. The street ended at the bay. We could see clouds way, way to the North after we crossed the bridge. But nothin' but blue over Highland.

Those birds have been trained well by the crew at Highland.Matthew wrote:With the crappy weekend forecast, Karen and I ventured out to Highland Thursday afternoon.
