Media coverage : Remarks of Clinton vs Bush

Post by markc »

Here's a website with some interesting stats regarding the number
of times the mass media quoted Clinton (on Lewinsky relationship) vs
Bush (on wiretapping procedures), during similar time periods
after they made their assertions:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200602150001

The quote-ratio is more than 4.5:1 , Clinton vs Bush. The
search strategies were:

i did not have sexual relations with that woman
AND date(geq (8/18/98) and leq (10/22/98))

any time you hear the united states government talking about
wiretap OR a wiretap requires a court order OR when we're talking
about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court
order before we do so AND date(geq (12/20/05) and leq (2/13/06))

Seems that gossip about an affair must be more interesting to
the media and their viewers than concerns about the legality of a
wiretap program.

Mass ignorance and mediocrity is at an all-time high in popularity.

If not more interesting, then it's maybe something the average public can understand....

if it makes you feel any better:

a friend who is retired ffrom the NSA, an asst inspector general, was at our place ffor dinner yesterday (live long enough and you'll see everything, i guess).

he is quietly loyal and proud of his agency and the work he did there. he voted for bush. he's distressed about this disadministration's manipulation and abuse of the NSA (didn't much like what'd happened at cia before hayden, either). 'said he knows at least two retired IG's (inspector generals) who feel likewise.

it must of been the tasty wine he brought that got him talking (joke) - Ironberry from Margaret River of Australia, a cabernet/shiraz/merlot - in case anyone wants to start sharing wine and cooking tips :).

that way, marco, i'd be able to insult your cooking as well.

cheers
