HG - on the Map with other recreational acitivites?

Post by Spark »

Recently, while working on a mapping project, I encountered a set of mapping symbols that included a hang glider. I learned that the symbols have received approval by the appropriate agencies and will (in the future) be used for maps, and signs.

These symbols are implemented with a TrueType font. The hang glider happens to be a 'G'. A selected set of symbols, including the hang glider, is located at the following link.

About a year ago, I encountered a similar 'placeholder' (Recreational Activity Type Code) related to our sport, reported to the OzReport

I just discovered another "sign" of hang gliding coming into the mainstream. At Disney World's EPCOT Center the newest ride -- Soaring -- is a simulated Hang Gliding ride over a host of west coast sites. I found it not quite like the real thing (especially the ride down the river barely missing the heads of white water rafters), but the sensation was pretty neat.

Way cool! Do you know where to get the actual font (so I can install it on my computer)?
