The CHGPA Winter Meeting...will be held...drum roll please...at the landmark Quarry House Tavern in downtown Silver Spring, 8401 Georgia Avenue, 301-587-9406. As usual, we'll gather at 8 pm on the 4th Wednesday of the month. That's the 25th.
The Quarry House is a great neighborhood bar. It's perfectly our speed: one of the best burgers in town, 40 different beers, 8 on tap, Montgomery County and thus no smoking. There's a bar area and a separate dining room. The dining room is normally closed on Wednesday's but they're opening it up for us. We won't know for sure until we give it a try, but I'm hopeful this place could be a keeper.
The winter meeting is when we (re)elect officers. If you're thinking you might not make it, think again: no show's historically have a very good chance of getting elected to the Board. Consider yourself warned!
Please plan to be there!

The Events Calendar on our website has been updated
with info about next Wednesday's meeting. I've included
directions to the Quarry House, and a link that has more
info about the tavern:

BTW: If you haven't renewed for 2006, please remember
to bring a checkbook to the meeting!
Can't wait to try this place, sounds like a great location.

metro access
And it looks like a very reasonable 5-10 minute walk from the silver spring metro station, located at the junction of 410 (east-west highway) and Colesville road.
From the metro station, walk NE on Colesville road, (are the tracks shown on mapquest railroad tracks or metro tracks? If RR, you go in the direction that would have you cross them.) Turn right on wayne avenue, go a few short blocks, turn right onto Georgia avenue and go another couple blocks to Bonifant st, where the Quarry house is located.
Hope it works out: it would be a definite step up from Lasick's.

Meeting Dircetions from Metro
Brian,
Mapquest has failed again! Exit the Silver Spring metro station on the North side towards Georgia Ave. Go to the steps on the far right outside. At the top of the steps is a mini cul de sac. This is actually the dead end of Bonifont. Follow this street away from the metro and stay on the left hand side. Pass under the parking lot bridge, go about a half a block and you'll come to the corner of Georgia Ave. Cross Georgia and there you are. The Quarry house is in the basement-- just like Cheers!
If driving, just park in the lot for the Silver Spring Metro parking lot.

Regretably I'm out of town that day and cannot make it.?
I'd like to nominate Craig Shelton for the safe pilot award.? He's had only once incident and that was years ago, after which he took positive steps to remedy the condition that contributed.? He's conservative in his decisions to fly and he's equally conservative in his decisions to permit his observees to fly.
