Yes, if my glider repair is complete by then. And if the other pilots in the community will allow me back at a launch site.... :D -Linda

I know you meant that in jest, but to the extent that there is a kernel of anxiety there, let me say that it's always good to stop, look, and listen when you get "negative feedback" from a launch or landing, but at some point you just have to get back on the horse that threw you... - Hugh

Actually not joking about any of it, though it was meant in good humor.

Steve W. thinks he will have my glider finished Friday (potentially) and
I'm emotionally and mentally ready to fly again. I didn't stop being
ready to fly due to my treeing incident. (Not that I haven't put a lot
of thought into it.) I don't think I should fly off a cliff
immediately, I think I would be better off at a slope or other
not-so-height-problem causing launch style.

As for other pilots' opinions: it is necessary that the rest of the
community feel they would accept me flying again so soon. I need launch
assist, retrieve, advice, potential rescue (not planning around that
last one though). I put many people out of their extended flying
opportunity last weekend. I'm not going to fly if everyone thinks they
are going to have to spend their next weekend fiddling with the trees,
ropes, gliders, bone-headed pilots, again etc... Like if I show up at a
site, and the other pilots drift rapidly and silently away to a
different site???? I'm into picking up on major clues after last
weekend...

No, I don't think you will get the reaction you describe - and yes, that does happen with some pilots.? You have a serious and responsible attitude to?matching your skills to the conditions.? I think the community will support your coming back as soon as possible.?- Hugh

Tandem ride?? I'm not as light as Brian - but I'm prettier except if he cheats and gets all gussied up as Brianna.? I should really just concentrate on PG solo, if conditions/site permits... It would be prudent to do some kiting first, too... - Hugh

Linda - High Rock is actually pretty simple if you just remember the two basic rules: nose down, and close to the edge if there's any appreciable wind. Nobody thinks you're illprepared to fly there, you just have to make sure you're following both rules before yelling "clear". You're probably less likely to make that mistake right now than you'll be a few years from now. I think folks will be glad to crew you off, just to make sure you are doing it right. So long as you're not freaked out about it there's no reason not to go right back to HR, IMHO.

There's other rules too, but they apply to all launch sites.

Linda, after my surgery, I was hesitent to fly High Rock for the first time back. I had a talk with Spark about it and wound up flying the Rock.In acceptable conditions I think it's easier to launch there. One step from the edge.I don't know.... It worked out for me..... Fly the Rock again.
I would like to fly this weekend.....

I am thinking pretty hard about flying tomorrow at Woodstock.? I will check in the am. My only concern is whether it would be too strong.

I don't know what to do.

Last night I saw an area of high winds around Woodstock, so I decided
to ski today and fly Pulpit Saturday. This morning the high winds
are gone, they didn't make snow last night, and Pulpit is
deteriorating (more South).

Get to the Pulpit early Saturday morning.? You shouldn't be disappointed.? Should be soarable and straight in for a good while before going SW in the PM.? Remember New Year's Day?

I am thinking about trying the Pulpit tomorrow. Or wherever is close enough to Christy's house- and soarable... what do Mark and I need to do to get waivered and paid? He is PG only right now. Hi Tom M., maybe we'll get to fly together again! Still got the green Moyes?:D

Hi, Linda! We are happy to welcome visiting pilots, especially a member of the U.S. women's world team, to our little corner of free-flying heaven. No waiver needed as long as you're up to date with USHGA. We do ask visiting pilots to purchase a Pulpit sticker for $15: grants flying priveleges for a year (also good for Fisher Road and Bill's Hill sites). You can sign up here: http://www.chgpa.net/renew

Call me if you have any questions or concerns. Look forward to meeing you, if I can get out tomorrow.

Happy Flying,
~Daniel

I'm bailing on flying mountains today. Maybe I'll try again on Sunday.

If the wind backs off a bit, I'll try high wind kiting this afternoon

Daniel,
Thanks for the info- I printed that out and told Mark to do the same. We will bring them with us tonight. I felt that you called (phone's on vibrate in my pocket- I'm at work!) and I will ring you when I get outta here at noon thirty. Or you can just keep calling my phone to make my work day more interesting! (kidding kidding)
