Instructor Scooter tow clinic

Post by Flying Lobster »

I'm sure most instructors have already heard from USHGA about the upcoming series of scooter tow clinics that Steve Wendt will be doing at Quest. I think the USHGF is footing the bill for training costs.

I've been using one of Steve's systems for over two years now and can say that effective training in Maine would be impossibe without it. I do my training at a flight park and mix my tows in with ultralight and aerotow traffic with no problems. I also have several small hills at the field, so my students get to do a few bunny hops before the day's towing begins.

I believe that in terms of speed, efficiency, safety and accelerated advancement of student foot-launch, flight and landing skills there is no more effective way to train a new hang glider pilot (works well for paragliders too). I like to mix in the occassional tandem to "keep the prize" in mind and prepare a student for H2 high flight approach skills.

In addition to the training, there are a couple of new tow-oriented Yahoo listgroups, one of which is moderated by Dave Broyles and is devoted exclusively to scooter towing. A good place to consult and get information on improving your system and to avoid repeating mistakes from the past.

So, I have finally decided. I am going down to the Scooter-Tow-Clinic.

I was going to fly down, but based on available, flights and cost, I'm gonna drive it ...

departing Columbia MD sometime in the afternoon of 17Feb (once I've completed my RedHat Linux Certification exam) heading toward Groveland FL. I

figure I'll get there on Saturday and if the weather doesn't suck, I might actually get to fly before the clinic starts on Sunday. I'll be spending Wednesday 22Feb driving back. A bit further than Manquin, but I've never flown at Quest yet.

Anybody interested in coming along for the ride, or need any gliders sent to or from Quest?
